Filter Exception

Sorry to ask a question that might have already been address but but I'm pulling one of those mental blanks, searches for 'Filter Exception' do not respond with anything related and I cannot figure out the thought process to solve my problem.
I needed to create a filter I call "Email from me" that deletes emails where SPAMMERS use my email address as the origination point (i.e. From: ). But, every now and then I need to forward an email I have on phone to my home PC, and my own filter/rule gets in the way. Thus, deleting my intended message and removing any attachments.
What is the thought process to put an exception in a filter? For example, if I add a pound sign '#' in the subject line, my Mailwasher filter would see the '#' as an exception and Not automatically delete.
Hoping I explained this clearly,
Thanks
Bill
