I received a crude attempt at extortion that I marked as spam. It was obvious spam and obvious extortion, blindly claiming that I'd done things I'd be ashamed of if they were known and demanding payment to keep silent. I hadn't done anything of the sort and wasn't intimidated, but it's unpleasant having to look at crap like this.
When I ran mailwasher, the offending email was not removed, and persists in my in-box. That makes it hard to download the legitimate email without getting this, too. God knows what malware it might bring with it.
What can be done about it?

Odd the email is not tagged for delete. Are you unable to manually delete the email in MailWasher now ?

Re: Obvious spam not erased
Check under Settings >> Accounts >> Incoming >> if the account is POP3 uncheck Store Cached Email >> Save >> restart MailWasher.
See if the message returns, if it does try deleting again.

Was the Store Cached Email option checked ? As the account is POP3, it will still be preset, just greyed out.
If it is, set the account to POP3 >> Uncheck the option >> set back to IMAP >>> Save >> restart MailWasher.
