Message "stuck" in Inbox?

Wed Jan 22, 2020 11:54 pm

I check a LOT of addresses in MWP 7.12.6, almost all of them gmail accts. I've never had a problem (other than self-inflicted :) but I have one gmail message on one account that for some random reason is "sticking" in the MWP inbox and will not come into my email program as every other address including this one normally does. Test messages to that account are fine, in and out. It says it was received 12/26/2019 but it is definitely not in my email program, even if I do a search for that account. I tried clearing the grid, but that didn't clear it. not that I thought it might, but you never know :)

Thoughts?

Is this email message a "keeper"? Or are you okay with just deleting it? If me, I would log into that gmail account directly via my browser and look at the message. If okay to delete, then delete it. If not, perhaps forward it to one of your other gmail accounts and see how it goes.

I don't disagree and probably will discard it, but I do think it is important to know WHY this happened, especially considering how long I've had both the product and the address. This, in at least in my experience, is definitely not normal.

I just viewed it in the gmail interface in the browser, and sure enough it's there, unread. As noted, I could certainly just read it and kill it, etc etc, but I'd rather leave it out there for a little while in case anyone else has any thoughts on it. I can't imagine what would be different about this one, from a long trusted sender, that would not let it be downloaded to my email client. That said, this will be my next email in case the author has any ideas :)

from a long trusted sender,
That just means you can assume it is not "intentionally" malicious - assuming it really is from that trusted sender and their email address was not spoofed.

I am just saying if MWP properly handles dozens of emails, it seems hard to fault MWP if just one fails.

Oh I'm not faulting it at all! I completely agree! It's just that BECAUSE it has done such a stellar job for many many years for me, I would like to know what was in that *one particular* message that created this situation. I don't know if the issue is MWP (doubtful), the message itself, or my email client. And before you ask :) I have reported this to my email vendor. If he comes up with anything, I'll report back. The message is still sitting out there in MWP, btw, despite many many inbound checks :)

Which email client. Some have settings where if a message is blocked for any reason it won't download but remains on the server,

Also is the email client setup to access via POP or IMAP ?

UPDATE. Apologies for not following up sooner on this. I did eventually delete that message, and all was well, but here it is several months later, and now it's happening again, this time with 2 different email addresses (all gmail) than before. There have been life changes, I should note, we moved to a new town, and I'm now stuck with Spectrum instead of AT&T U-Verse, but I get most messages just fine now, with the exception of these two.

I say "most" because I now have 2 messages, to 2 different accounts, that are stuck. All my others come in uneventfully to MWP first, then to my email program (Pandora, a new prog based on Eudora, but with an active author--been using this for a year or two now, so likely not the cause, given there are plenty of other gmails that come in uneventfully).

Still trying to figger out why they don't move out--I do see them in my online gmail interface, but not sure why they won't get to me. I've tried setting them to unread again, but doesn't work. I sent a test message to one of them, and it worked uneventfully. As I recall, the initial message was a "normal" one, but these two happen to be "critical security event" ones from google. Shouldn't matter tho.

Thoughts?

TIA

And you have no filters or blocking on these email addresses here https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/filters ?

In MailWasher, under Settings >> Accounts >> Incoming >> if you change the account to IMAP >> Save >> restart MailWasher >> set back to POP >> recheck the account, does the message still appear ?

I'm aware of imap of course, but literally never use it, so I'm unsure of the parameters. I can try it tho, if you can tell me what it needs (other than server name and credentials of course).

Nothing needs to change when switching to IMAP, MailWasher should take care of all the settings for you.

You just want to switch, save and restart MW, switch back. This process is much the same as removing the account and adding it back, just want to be certain this is not somehow a MW fault.

Rightly or wrongly, after fiddling with it for a while, I put them back to POP. I'm familiar with it, and know nothing about IMAP.

Since that didn't change anything, I totally removed the two accounts, exited MWP, came in again, added them back, and still no go.

I'm wondering now it it's my email program that's at fault. It's Pandora, a "new" program based on Eudora, but modernized and with an active, very responsive author. He says it's not, but I don't know any way to prove it. Given two apps (MWP and P) don't seem to like the messages, I'm wondering if there's something in them it doesn't like. As it happens, both got a "critical security alert" from google, which may or may not have been because we very recently moved, and I have a new provider etc (Spectrum, against our wishes but it's the only one available). So as a test, i sent out a test msg to each of them. Both went out and came into MWP and Pandora uneventfully.

Given I could at least read the darned messages, I'm just going to delete them and go back to sleep :) Thanks so much for your assistance.
