Mails not removed after dovnload.

Hello from Denmark,

I have downloaded Mailwasher Pro and have installed it on my computer. It is ok, but I cannot get rid of the emails when I have downloaded them to my computer. They are still laying in Mailwasher.

Can anyone help me and tell me how to get Mailwasher to delete them after download.

What email program do you use to download the emails ?
Also do you know if the email program is setup to use POP or IMAP ?

Great, so in ThunderBird under Tools >> Account Settings >> select Server Settings on the left >> then on the right uncheck the option 'Leave messages on server' >> OK >> restart ThunderBird.

This means when ThunderBird retrieves emails, it will delete the copy on the server. MailWasher will no longer load those emails, on next Check Mail it will remove from view.

Thank you very much for your help. It works, but only 50%. The problem still lies with the Gmail account. Hope you have a good ideas also for Gmail:-).

Is the GMail account also setup as POP in both MailWasher and ThunderBird ?
In MailWasher you can check under Settings >> Accounts >> Incoming >> shows at the top.
In ThunderBird you can check under Tools >> Account Settings >> select Server Settings on the left >> then at the top on the right it will display which.

Both are imap.

OK, changing MailWasher is easy, under Settings >> Accounts >> Incoming >> switch to POP >> Save.

Changing ThunderBird means removing the account and adding it back. Details below. ThunderBird might try and default to an IMAP setup so during the process of adding your account look for a Manual Setup option and switch it to POP. Then again in ThunderBird change the option to Leave emails on the server.

The only trick is that if you have many emails in the GMail account, your POP Inbox could be quite large, and GMail only serves up 200-300 emails at a time. This might mean you need to repeatedly Get Messages in ThunderBird to being them all down and cleared from the Inbox.


ThunderBird :
Go Tools >> Account Settings >> with your GMail account selected in the left pane click 'Account Actions' bottom left >> Remove Account >> confirm the Remove.
Then click Account Actions again >> Add Mail Account >> enter your name you want to appear in your emails, your email address and password >> then click Manual Config bottom left >> change the Incoming to type POP >> check the POP server address is pop.gmail.com >> Port should be 995 >> check the Outgoing server is smtp.gmail.com >> port should be 465 >> click Re-Test >> it should confirm the settings were found by the server >> then click Advanced Config bottom left >> this brings you back to your Accounts, select Server Settings next to your GMail account in the left pane >> then you'll see the options about check for mail on startup/every 10 minutes, and leaving emails on the server. Uncheck those, click OK.

Gmail account was moved, and has been returned, as you described.

After bringing the mails to Thunderbird they are no longer left in Mailwasher.
