use of unroll.me with Mailwasher

Sun Aug 02, 2020 2:06 am

I just engaged unroll.me for my hotmail account. Not sure how it works, but the purpose is to unsubcribe me to newsletters I don't want. Are there any security issues with unroll.me? How does it mesh with Mailwasher? Thanks.

It sounds like these messages will get tagged and placed into another folder so you won't seem them in your Inbox. If you were to use IMAP in MailWasher to access the account (Settings >> Accounts >> Incoming) >> then under the IMAP tab there would perhaps be an Unroll.me folder that you could set MailWasher to also check to see these messages.

Security issues exist with any service that you supply your email password to. This looks to act as a proxy so it has in theory access to all your messages, and they do makes money by selling your data.
To keep our users from having to pay, Slice Technologies, which owns Unroll.Me, measures e-commerce through a technology that automatically recognizes commercial emails and extracts purchase information from them. Our technology is designed to ignore personal email, which does not help us measure market trends.

Slice strips away personal information– your name, email, address, anything that could identify you – to build anonymized market research products that analyze and track consumer trends. We respect your privacy and don’t share your receipts, emails or any of your personal information with our clients as part of our business model.

It's interesting that I never gave unroll.me my passwords, but they seem to access my mail anyway.
