Thought we might have cracked it but read on. Got in touch with Jeremy Clark at Firetrust support and he pointed me in a new direction, " in my gmail web page click settings>forwarding and pop>pop download>A select 2>delete Gmails copy. Then into MWPro settings account Gmail and change to Pop." This did work up to a point, because only mail chosen by me came through to WLM, this was how my mail always worked until recently. I heaved a sigh of relief but it was short lived, when I went back to MW and deleted the mail it also deleted the mail in my WLM. I suppose Google is doing what I told it to do and deleting the gmail copy but this isnt quite what I meant it to do. I did email Jeremy again but as yet I have not seen an answer.
