Is there a way to slow down MW when deleting from server?

Thu Dec 03, 2020 7:47 am

After many, many times dealing with this problem, I'm getting more convinced than ever the problem is MWP is TOO FAST when it deletes mails from my IP's server. If I delete more than, say, 10 items at one time and go back and run "Check Mail" again, I, more often than not any more, see none of those emails were deleted. That means, I end up deleting 10 or so, waiting a couple of minutes and repeating the process. That works most of the time. I'm of the opinion the burst of delete signaling from MWP to the server just overwhelms and nothing gets deleted. Leaving me with the suspicion it's purely the fact the server can't handle it. So... is there some way to slow down the delete process? Maybe some sort of adjustable counter that would run between delete signals? I know: counterintuitive to everything you're trying to do, but if it works, I'll take it!

Yup, under Settings >> Accounts >> Incoming >> Advanced >> uncheck the option to use PIPELINING when Deleting.

With PIPELINING, MailWasher issues commands in batches, waits for it's acknowledgement and then issues another batch.

With that off, MailWasher will delete one message, wait for acknowledgement, delete another and so on....so it is slightly slower

I turned pipelining off quite some time ago when I first started having this problem. It would seem if MWP deletes, then waits for acknowledgement, this shouldn't happen, but it does. And again, I think it's the IP's servers. Since I can, I think I'm going to log directly into the address via Chrome and watch the emails as I delete them with MWP. I don't know what it will prove, but I might see how fast the server responds. Other than that, I don't know...
