Recover large attachment from spam?

Hubs has a new client that he forgot to tell me about, so when a message came thru, it went to the recycle bin, my default for anything that doesn't hit one of my many many filters. Once we realized that, I added it to the good filters of course and restored it back to the inbox. Only problem is that while the message itself was tiny, it had a 15MB attachment, and that did NOT come in :( I also looked at the host's mail site, but I'm assuming that once MWP marks it as either deleted or otherwise unavailable, it's dead, because I didn't see it there either. And even after I moved it back to the inbox, tho, it still doesn't show up in the host's mail. The email client did see it tho, luckily, and he at least got the message, if not the attachment.

I'm guessing he'll just have to get the client to resend it, now that they are set up in MWP, but is there any way to retrieve an attachment from a restored message?

TIA

PS And I'll change that fall thru to some random inbox, if I can instead of the trash.

Yeah MailWasher can only restore the part of the email it retrieved.

If it's a GMail account, then they keep an archived copy of all emails, including deleted in the All Mail folder.
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#all

But it sounds like this is not the case, so if it's not in the Trash/Recycle Bin of the host mail, then sadly you will need to ask for it to be resent.

Cheers

Sadly, no, it wasn't a gmail acct. I use them exclusively but he doesn't. So apparently it failed the "9999" lines test? Hmm, what happens when it comes in again but doesn't go to spam? Will it fail then too? Dang!

Well, I've suggested he ask them to send it one more time, but to his gmail acct (which he doesn't normally use). At least it will be safe there as I've also taken that one out of MWP.

Thx

Yeah a 15mb attachment would be well over 9999 lines.

If it's a POP account, under Settings >> Accounts >> Incoming >> Advanced >> you could try checking Use RETR instead of TOP >> this means MailWasher uses a command to retrieve the entire message at once. The problem with this option however is that a lot of large emails like this will significantly slow MailWasher down.
For example a 20MB file, would be around 120,000 lines of data, MailWasher will pull all that in and be trying to run the filters you've created across that.

If the sender address is on your Friends List, creating a custom filter using a Spam Tool rule, to look for a Friends List match, and having that filter at the top would then stop all other filters down the list from processing. Not sure if that suits the way you have things setup though.

Heh! Yep :) A wee bit bigger indeed :)

I did try the RETR option, and interestingly it brought in about 3 MB of the file. Unfortunately it wasn't enough, the file is either a large PDF or a spreadsheet, so having only a small portion obviously won't work. In any event, he's asked the client to resend it to his gmail account and I've turned it off in MWP so he can get it directly, just in case, or at least it will be sitting in his gmail. Thanks tho!

Email is not designed to handle files this size, you should use opitions like icloud, dropbox etc to share the files.

Of course not, but when you are dealing with a new client in particular, and they suggest it, probably not even knowing how large the file is, you don't necessarily have a choice.
