Weird Checkbox Gray-out Problem

A few weeks ago my "delete" checkboxes suddenly began to become gray when marked for delete, or unmarked -- IOTW upon a mouseclick. (see screenshot, attached) The gray sticks until I click the mouse on any other line (i.e., subject, received, etc), when all the checkboxes appear as they should -- checked or blank.
Similar oddities occur in the settings windows. In the 'display' window, the place that should say "save" simply appears as a very light blue area (fortunately, I've learned where it is and that clicking on it saves a change regardless).
I'd think it was purely something with the graphics board if it weren't that MW is the only place I see the problem. Does this ring any bells with anyone? (Win10 Home, 64 bit, NVIDIA Ge-Force GTX 1080 display adapter, Asus monitor set to recommended 2560 x 1440 resolution.)
'Programs and Features' 'repair' didn't fix the problem.
Any suggestions welcome. Minor annoyance that escalates over time! And, TIA!
