I'm using Mailwasher Free and considering an upgrade but I'm not sure just how to work with Mailwasher. I check Mailwasher when I first turn on my computer and mark and wash the spam. Throughout the day as new emails come in, do I have to check mailwasher each time before I open my email client (OE Classic). It seems as if I don't some spam enters my mailbox despite the fact that I have marked it as spam or I have entered it onto my blacklist.

What you can do in OE Classic, under Tools >> Options >> if you uncheck the option to check messages at startup, and change the drop down "Automatically check for new messages' to 'Never' >> OK.

This will stop OE Classic bringing in messages automatically. You can hit the Send/Recv button at any time to bring the messages in when you want to.

You can then let MailWasher check for messages automatically and be notified through that instead.
