OK, like everyone I went through the problems of the last couple of days, with the error messages in the logs. I downgraded MW, that didn't help, and then I updated it again and the errors where still there. I couldn't even get any emails anymore. So I waited until a solution was available.
Today I updated to MW 7.12.188 and the errors are gone, the mail gets in, but now I have a new problem. Mail doesn't get classified anymore. The whole inbox just stays white. I can classify mail manually, but MW forgets about that when I restart it. I was used to the automatic classification of mail, but I cannot get that to work anymore.
What did I try to solve this problem?
- I exported my settings without the learning data, exited MW, deleted ALL the user files (AppData\Roaming\Firetrust\MailWasher), started MW, cancelled the normal setup, then imported the settings. This didn't make any difference.
- I exited MW, deleted all user files, started MW, but this time I imported only one account from Thunderbird. No difference.
- Restarted the computer, which made no difference.
Info:
I'm using Windows 11 Pro 23H2 with MW 7.12.188.
I'm not sure if this problem occurs because I'm doing something wrong, I'm no expert when it comes to MW, or whether there's something else going on. Can someone give me a tip what I could try, or what I need to check? Feeling very blank at the moment (literally).
Mail classification doesn't work anymore.

Is learning switched on in the settings?

Yes, learning is switched on, see image below:

I have not changed any of the settings here. Resetting the values to their defaults didn't help.

Re: Mail classification doesn't work anymore.
Yes, possibly the learning settings or database itself got trashed somehow....
(NOTE: this holds your learning settings, and blacklist/friendslist, so the below will reset these sorry).
Click Help>>User files in MWPro.
Minimise the folder that opens.
Click File>>Exit to close MWPro.
Maximise the folder, then open the Cache folder.
Then, (With MWPro closed) rename the MWP.db3 file to MWP1.db3 and restart MWPro,
Use it for a while marking ALL emails as either good or spam, restart at least once every day, and let us know how that goes....

Re: Mail classification doesn't work anymore.
I think that's what I already did, and more. Anyway, I took an even more drastic approach:
- Uninstalled MW completely.
- Deleted all the user files in the user folder (C:\Users\<my pc>\AppData\Roaming\Firetrust\MailWasher).
- The only remaining file in the common folder was "key.file".
- Restarted the computer.
- Reinstalled MW (7.12.188).
- Created a single account manually.
I can retrieve mail, but it doesn't get classified. I can classify manually, but when I restart MW, and retrieve the same emails, they are not classified.
This might be normal behavior when learning is reset, as I did, but I don't think so. I simply don't know, and the "How to use MailWasher" page in the help file doesn't tell me what behavior I can expect either. It just seems weird to me that the same emails, I already classified, don't get classified automatically the second time around.
I will keep trying, perhaps it will understand it eventually?

Re: Mail classification doesn't work anymore.
Yes, that's correct, a new installation will not know which emails are good, so often wont mark ANY as good or spam, you need to train it as such by marking all emails as good or spam, it should soon start doing this itself....
