7.12.193. I primarily use the email program Sylpheed and discussion there today about Google soon requiring third-party apps to use OAuth reminded me that I haven't been seeing any gmails show up in MWP lately even though I reset things some months ago. The error message is ": Failed to login to server "imap.gmail.com" for your xxxx account." What do I (we) need to do?

MWP and Gmail again

Re: MWP and Gmail again
Yes, MWPro has always worked with gmail, however google have decided to block all non email clients from accessing mail, and that includes MWPro.... (all versions) the only way around this is to use 2 step authentication and use an app password in MW, Nick has added this to our FAQ's recently here:
https://www.firetrust.com/products/mail ... quirements
However gmail has changed their directions slightly since we posted that, so please see the below directly from google help:
Sign in with app passwords
Tip: App passwords aren’t recommended and are unnecessary in most cases. To help keep your account secure, use "Sign in with Google" to connect apps to your Google Account.
An app password is a 16-digit passcode that gives a less secure app or device permission to access your Google Account. App passwords can only be used with accounts that have 2-Step Verification turned on.
When to use app passwords
Tip: iPhones and iPads with iOS 11 or up don’t require app passwords. Instead use “Sign in with Google.”
If the app doesn’t offer “Sign in with Google,” (NOTE: this is coming to MW soon) you can either:
* Use app passwords
* Switch to a more secure app or device
* Create & use app passwords
Important: To create an app password, you need 2-Step Verification on your Google Account.
If you use 2-Step-Verification and get a "password incorrect" error when you sign in, you can try to use an app password.
* Go to your Google Account.
* Select Security.
* Under "Signing in to Google," select 2-Step Verification.
* At the bottom of the page, select App passwords.
* Enter a name that helps you remember where you’ll use the app password.
* Select Generate.
* To enter the app password, follow the instructions on your screen. The app password is the 16-character code that generates on your device.
* Select Done.
* If you’ve set up 2-Step Verification but can’t find the option to add an app password, it might be because:
Your Google Account has 2-Step Verification set up only for security keys.
You’re logged into a work, school, or another organization account.
Your Google Account has Advanced Protection.
Tip: Usually, you’ll need to enter an app password once per app or device.
-------------------------
If still problems, and if your settings within MW are correct, yet it still cannot connect, this usually means one of the following.
1.) that your app password is wrong.
2.) you have not yet enabled 2-Step-Verification on the gmail security settings page,
(MW needs this enabled to work with gmail accounts due to changes on gmails end)
https://myaccount.google.com/security
3.) POP and/or IMAP access is disabled for the gmail account, ensure these are enabled here:
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/fwdandpop
4.) Your web browser is incorrectly reporting that 2-Step-Verification is ON, when it is really OFF.... try logging into your gmail account via another web browser, then go here in that browser:
https://myaccount.google.com/security
Scroll down and sure 2-Step-Verification is really on.
Aside from that, the only other option is to change your gmail password, use that new password in MWPro, and see if that helps....?
Note also, that after changing your password, you need to first log off gmail within your web browser, restart your PC, then open your
web browser and log back into gmail and re-enable 2-Step-Verification.

Re: MWP and Gmail again
Thanks. Think I'll wait to see what you come up with, since there's only one org I use Gmail with periodically. I really don't want to give Google my phone number -- a search doesn't turn it up -- and am not picturing how 2-step verification would work with MWP.

Re: MWP and Gmail again
Thanks, but I'm missing something. I just updated the Incoming Security connection to OAUTH, as well as the email address on the gmail account I want to use with MWP. Upon saving, it checked successfully. So I sent an email to that address but MWP is not seeing it. On the Incoming tab settings, I'm using IMAP, imap.gmai.com, and the server port is 993. The email address is correct, as is the password. Download is not checked.
