Oh dear. A retrograde step.

I like to set up loads of sound notification on my system. (I work in my own office.) I have a sound file that says "Mailwasher" when MW has done its thing. It is an excellent way of sorting out what is going on.

Now I have to put up with the Windows 98 version of things.

Where do we put in requests to get this bit improved?

It seems strange to be taking backward steps in these multimedia days.

I agree. I would not have installed the new version if I knew this to begin with. I tried to rename my notify.wav file in Windows 7, and it won't let me do it. Says I don't have permission. Now what?

Windows7 looks to prevent any alteration to this.

It's on our list of things to do, in the scheme of things it wasn't considered a priority for us, but we can get on to it sooner rather than later :thumbsup

Oh my, Vista won't let you rename a sound file... How special.

You can run both v6 and the 2010, run v6 minimized to get your preferred sound and the new MW to deal with your spam. They run happily together.

There is this suggestion also: http://www.firetrust.com/en/products/ma ... il-account

And no formal suggestion for it but folks have been asking for three sounds, good mail, unknown mail and only spam to be played in that priority after a mail check.

Hello,

I just upgraded to MailWasher Pro 2010 from MailWasher Pro 6.53 and was unpleasantly surprised that MailWasher no longer notified me of incoming email with my chosen sound file. It now notifies me with C:\WINDOWS\Media\notify.wav.

I was hopeful when I found the following registry key:
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1870452290-638245755-357532823-1005\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\MailWasher\New Mail\.default
I changed the file it referred to from notify.wav to my desired sound file (full path including filename), but it did not work - even after a computer restart.

The related key:
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1870452290-638245755-357532823-1005\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\MailWasher\New Mail\.current
was already pointing to my desired file (likely from my change in Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Sounds, Mail WasherPro, New Mail) but that did not help.

I am puzzled as to why this feature was taken away. Might we have it back?

It's explained above this feature will be added. We'll try and do soon.

Don't go poking in the Registry, the new MailWasher doesn't use the Registry at all.

Thank you for your response. I look forward to this feature being added back.

You mentioned that MailWasher Pro 2010 does not use the Registry as the previous ones did. This raises the questions:

1) Why did not the installation of MailWasher Pro 2010 remove the previous installation of MailWasher Pro?
2) Why did not the uninstall of MailWasher Pro 6.53 remove its own registry items?

Leaving the old version 6 installed is so that it is easier for us beta testing as you can run the two side by side.

It also helps non-beta testers migrate as they can compare the two applications.

If you decide to run both make sure that you are only Washing and Deleting (including Auto deletes) from one application. Also checking mail at the same time may cause problem with access to the mail servers.

Makes sense - thanks.

I have already uninstalled the previous version (6.53) of MailWasher Pro on my two PCs.

There is an option that you put on the command line of v6 to clear the personalized registry stuff, can't remember just what it is though. The inability to completely remove its data from the system is one of the shortcomings in v6 that has been dealt with in 2010.
