Disable cleartype

Sat Jul 10, 2010 12:12 am

MW Pro 2010 could not convince me so far, one of the points that bother me is the cleartype display of the whole interface.
I have disabled cleartype under Windows 7 completely, MW is the only application here that overrides this.

There is no option concerning this, maybe there ie a registry hack or something like that?

Not that I'm aware of, I think this might be something set due to us using WPF.

If I recall .NET4 will make a lot of improvements to text display. We haven't yet built on .NET4 as it was too close to release for our liking to make the shift so late.

I'm not confident it will make a difference, or one significant enough. Though a further option that could be available to us is expose a setting to disable ClearType in MailWasher, in the previous versions of MailWasher this was never an option to us as WPF/.NET 3.5 force ClearType on.

Sure thing. We're going to try and expose the ClearType option in the software soon, so I'll post a version when that's been done.

Under Settings >> Display >> General >> there's an option to switch off the font smoothing....or have we been down that road ?

There's also three fonts available to choose from under Settings >> General >> Application >> though again, not sure if we've done all this before too.

Already tried switching the fonts, here's how it looks like with font smoothing disabled:

Nice, isn't it?

Try changing to one of the alternate Fonts. My guess is that the one currently selected is not one that is installed on your system. See Screen Cap below:

Unfortunately, we don't think we can do any more here. Nothing we've tried has obviously worked and the settings exposed to us in .NET4 for WPF just doesn't seem to be playing nice on your system. We can't say why as it's not something on any of our test machines, that makes things just a little more difficult to try and resolve, ideally we could have a system in-house that looked that ugly with this kind of text.

That's what I've done already, regardless which font I choose, the font in the list of e-mails looks messy.
And I tried this on 4 different PC's.

So I have to live with that or return to Mailwasher 6?

If you change the Language selection Setting, General, Application to English US are the characters displayed correctly? I'm wondering if it's something related to the language file in MWP.

Are all 4 systems running the same Graphics card and the same version of Windows?

Also what language selection do you have your Windows set to use?
