Just installed Mailwasher Pro 2010. Like it but it did not import the filters I had in Mailwasher 6. Any suggestions about how to recover them? I had several filters for hiding certain emails, I did not need to see before deletion. e.g. banks I have never had an account with!

Fastest way without a bunch of hassle is to just copy/paste the old filter conditions into the new MW. You can have both running at the same time with no issues.

If you are feeling geeky you can copy the same stuff directly from the filters.txt used by v6 into the filters.xml used by 2010 but you have to manually deal with the XML tags.

BTW, the hiding of emails in the inbox is not implemented yet, but this is on the list to be added shortly.

I'm sure that there are some splendid advantages that you have incorporated into 2010 but I have not found any that appear to affect me directly as yet and, as is usual in life and changes, I'm just finding problems. This feeling is, of course, compounded by the fact that I have paid for this aggravation!

I have just looked at the two different ways of importing the filters from 6 to 2010 that you suggest and am somewhat dismayed at the amount of work involved in transferring my 70+ filters that I have found to be so useful over the years. I genuinely feel that it is incumbent upon you to provide a significantly more user friendly system if you are to persuade your existing customers to remain loyal.

I think I'm back to version 6 for the time being!

Given it's a new new regular expression engine, and the filtering options are different, as well as the filtering actions, trying to import just isn't practical as it could have lead to more problems than answers.

Answering your question "Why is it up to me". I guess the answer is that you have already demonstrated that you have skills in this area though my initial communication was directed at 'management' rather than your good self. It would appear from the previous post that a solution, if it is at all possible, is going to have to be found from within the skills of the users.

Shrappers - OK, I can see that point but since I already ported over all my filters using copy/paste many months ago I can't see spending time doing that kind of thing. It was certainly faster to do it by hand than to create a program to do it and even if I had done a program it wouldn't run on Windows since I don't use Windows for anything but running MW. I have the MW directory shred on my LAN and do all my work there from my Linux systems where a full set of editing tools are available by default.

Mailwasher runs on Linux?

They had a Linux version under development for a while, I was a beta tester and still have and use it as my primary mail cleaner. Also you can run v6 and earlier versions under Wine on a Linux box, haven't done that in a while so I don't have a checklist of what is needed to do it. They are hoping to have a version of 2010 for Mac and Linux once the Windows version stabilizes.

Likewise - I have reverted back to version 6.5.4 brcause of this issue

I do not have the time, nor see why I should have to cut/paste or re-write nearly 500 filters for the up(down)grade to function as the previous version.

I strongly feel that 'Firetrust' should provide a simple way to import the filters from the previous version ... after all, the filters are the heart of the program! (and yes I could accept a 90% success rate)

If you search the forum there is a user created tool to assist in the conversion.

First you need to find the Blacklist.txt file from 6.5.4.
MWP looks in one of these two places for it to do the import. Copy the file to there and then use the import button.
