Important notice for MailWasher and GMail accounts... Mk2

NOTE: The below is no longer required as MWPro now supports OAUTH, so just setup like a normal account eg:

In Mailwasher Pro click, Settings>>Accounts>>Add Email Account, type any name for this account you like, enter your email address and click Save.
Click the Incoming tab and click "Sign in with Google", follow the prompts and you'll be asked for permission to allow MW access to the account, ensure you agree to this.
If it shows successful, click Save again on the outgoing tab, refresh folders on the IMAP tab (IF asked) and you are all set.

And that should work fine.

===================================
Quite a few changes since this was originally posted by rusticdog, so have added the below....

While MWPro has always worked with gmail, however google blocks all non email clients from accessing mail, and that includes MWPro, they have however now decided to allow us OAUTH access to their systems again but the process is slow and painful for all involved so is taking a LOT longer than we ever anticipated....

The only way around this is (still) currently to use 2 step authentication and use an app password in MW, Nick has added this to our FAQ's here:
https://www.firetrust.com/products/mail ... quirements

However gmail has changed their directions slightly since we posted the above, so please see the below directly from google help:

NOTE: app passwords are now not available for users who have enabled Passkeys within gmail
NOTE2: if for any reason you have enabled 2-Step-Verification and cannot find the app password option, try going directly here:
https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords
Sign in with app passwords
Tip: App passwords aren’t recommended and are unnecessary in most cases. To help keep your account secure, use "Sign in with Google" to connect apps to your Google Account.

An app password is a 16-digit passcode that gives a less secure app or device permission to access your Google Account. App passwords can only be used with accounts that have 2-Step Verification turned on.

When to use app passwords
Tip: iPhones and iPads with iOS 11 or up don’t require app passwords. Instead use “Sign in with Google.”

If the app doesn’t offer “Sign in with Google,” (NOTE: this is coming to MW soon) you can either:

* Use app passwords
* Switch to a more secure app or device
* Create & use app passwords
Important: To create an app password, you need 2-Step Verification on your Google Account.

If you use 2-Step-Verification and get a "password incorrect" error when you sign in, you can try to use an app password.

* Go to your Google Account.
* Select Security.
* Under "Signing in to Google," select 2-Step Verification.
* At the bottom of the page, select App passwords.
* Enter a name that helps you remember where you’ll use the app password.
* Select Generate.
* To enter the app password, follow the instructions on your screen. The app password is the 16-character code that generates on your device.
* Select Done.
* If you’ve set up 2-Step Verification but can’t find the option to add an app password, it might be because:

Your Google Account has 2-Step Verification set up only for security keys.
You’re logged into a work, school, or another organization account.
Your Google Account has Advanced Protection.
Tip: Usually, you’ll need to enter an app password once per app or device.

Here's a screenshot of what MW's settings should look like also:

Frankly, with all due respect and no offense meant...
Mailwasher -used- to work fine uptil and including 7.12.
I did and do not have 2 step verification on, except for really important sites (such as banking, health care, government related sites, etc., i.e. sites that are related to personal data).
For other sites (such as forums) I relay on my password manager.

Problems started when updating to 7.15.
I could not get MW working. Even after uninstalling, deleting registry entries and removing all left overs on my drives, I could not get 7.12 working.
That is to say, at least not for Gmail. I could get working for Outlook (Exchange ) though.

To be honest, given the above scenario, i.e. no 2-step verification, I am not sure how exactly I should proceed.

You advised an 'app password'. App password?? ehm.... what is meant with an app password?
But then again, I should enable 2-step verification for that, something I do not want.

Sorry to say, I am not an expert, I believe/assume that when this 2-step verification is on, I need to use my smartphone for each and every site that requires a log in. This is quite uncomfortable. Hence, I stayed away for it so far.

Please could you advise how to make Mailwasher work then?

Thank you very much.

Yes, the setup is a bit of a handful but not too bad once you get into it, note that we are working on OAUTH, (gmail security) however, (so an app password wont be required), we'll post when we have a version ready with this working so you can try that out if you wish.

It should be noted that MW did not change then suddenly stop working. Google is changing and forcing those changes on everyone else.

Yahoo mail is doing this too.

App passwords are used to access/retrieve your emails with a third party app. For example, if you use Thunderbird or MS Office Outlook (or MailWasher) to read your emails in your gmail or yahoo inbox, you may be required to use an app password.

This app password is set up in gmail or yahoo specifically for your 3rd party app.

So, for example, I use POP3 to access my gmail email with MWP. I told gmail I use "mailwasherpro.exe" to do that and gmail generated a unique password for me using MailWasher. I then configured MW to use that unique password. Note this unique password is ONLY for MWP and me. If I wish to log into gmail through my browser, I still use my standard gmail password.

Clear as mud, huh?

Thanks. Okay, I'll wait for the new version.
Hopefully the install will be much easier then.

BTW hopefully users will be notified of the new version(?)

No news for a while. Am missing MW.

Q: will it at least work with Microsoft Exchange?

Assume Microsoft's announcement "Modern Authentication Methods now needed to continue syncing Outlook Email in non-Microsoft email apps"
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/off ... 986499a90d
also requires extra work for MW ?

thanks.

Yes, taking a lonnnnnnnnng time sorry, google is hard work to communicate with from what I understand....

But no, no exchange support, however that is not what the email/msg is talking about, it refers to OAUTH which yes, MWPro does support for Microsoft accounts not a problem.... see this post:
