Important notice for MailWasher and GMail accounts... Mk2
Posted: Sun Jun 30, 2024 8:00 am
NOTE: The below is no longer required as MWPro now supports OAUTH, so just setup like a normal account eg:
In Mailwasher Pro click, Settings>>Accounts>>Add Email Account, type any name for this account you like, enter your email address and click Save.
Click the Incoming tab and click "Sign in with Google", follow the prompts and you'll be asked for permission to allow MW access to the account, ensure you agree to this.
If it shows successful, click Save again on the outgoing tab, refresh folders on the IMAP tab (IF asked) and you are all set.
And that should work fine.

Quite a few changes since this was originally posted by rusticdog, so have added the below....
While MWPro has always worked with gmail, however google blocks all non email clients from accessing mail, and that includes MWPro, they have however now decided to allow us OAUTH access to their systems again but the process is slow and painful for all involved so is taking a LOT longer than we ever anticipated....
The only way around this is (still) currently to use 2 step authentication and use an app password in MW, Nick has added this to our FAQ's here:
https://www.firetrust.com/products/mail ... quirements
However gmail has changed their directions slightly since we posted the above, so please see the below directly from google help:
NOTE: app passwords are now not available for users who have enabled Passkeys within gmail
NOTE2: if for any reason you have enabled 2-Step-Verification and cannot find the app password option, try going directly here:

Here's a screenshot of what MW's settings should look like also:

Sign in with app passwords
Tip: App passwords aren’t recommended and are unnecessary in most cases. To help keep your account secure, use "Sign in with Google" to connect apps to your Google Account.
An app password is a 16-digit passcode that gives a less secure app or device permission to access your Google Account. App passwords can only be used with accounts that have 2-Step Verification turned on.
When to use app passwords
Tip: iPhones and iPads with iOS 11 or up don’t require app passwords. Instead use “Sign in with Google.”
If the app doesn’t offer “Sign in with Google,” (NOTE: this is coming to MW soon) you can either:
* Use app passwords
* Switch to a more secure app or device
* Create & use app passwords
Important: To create an app password, you need 2-Step Verification on your Google Account.
If you use 2-Step-Verification and get a "password incorrect" error when you sign in, you can try to use an app password.
* Go to your Google Account.
* Select Security.
* Under "Signing in to Google," select 2-Step Verification.
* At the bottom of the page, select App passwords.
* Enter a name that helps you remember where you’ll use the app password.
* Select Generate.
* To enter the app password, follow the instructions on your screen. The app password is the 16-character code that generates on your device.
* Select Done.
* If you’ve set up 2-Step Verification but can’t find the option to add an app password, it might be because:
Your Google Account has 2-Step Verification set up only for security keys.
You’re logged into a work, school, or another organization account.
Your Google Account has Advanced Protection.
Tip: Usually, you’ll need to enter an app password once per app or device.
