Blacklisted E-mails not deleted

I've just received several E-mails from a particular individual who is on my blacklist. They were correctly shown as "blacklisted" but were not marked for deletion and did not get "washed out".

What did the spam tool side bar show as the total score for the message?

If the other tools thought the message was not spam they may have prevented the blacklist from forcing it to be deleted. Several options, train the message as spam, raise the points awarded by the blacklist or add a filter to mark all blacklisted entries for deletion regardless of the other tools results.

Deletion and designation as Spam is managed by a mathematical total of all of the tools. You can see the results of the evaluation of each message by opening the Side Panel or with a right click on the message and select Show evaluation details. The values assigned to each of the tools can be altered on Settings, Spam Tools, Spam Ratings. You can also create a custom filter to force blacklist entries to be marked for deletion. The Bayesian evaluation needs to be trained for about 200 or so messages for it to learn your specific mail content.

Thanks. Didn't all blacklisted messages get deleted automatically in the previous version? Isn't that the point of a blacklist? If not - what is the point of it please?

Blacklists are more flexible in 2010, see previous post explaining why.

MW 2010 still provides the blacklist even though it is becoming less effective but has removed the automatic marking for delete. If you want that you can add it via the options under the filters.

The point of having it is to add bad points to messages listed but not ignore the other tools in evaluating the message.

Thanks. I've set up filters for Blacklist and Friends (just in case).

You also have the option in Settings to automatically delete messages based a specific value of total score.
