Upgrade Issues

I am running Windows XP.

I am have been a user of MailWasher for several years. I am now in the process of testing Version 2010.1.0.6.

When I installed the new version I installed it into a different directory than where the old version was installed. Programs Files/FireTrust/MailWasher Pro. The only thing placed in this directory was two directories "html" and "mailpv". The new version was placed in the same directory as the old version and I guess with all its support files??

Today, 1 August, I received a message that an update was available, so I selected to update. I pointed it to the same directory where I had originally installed the new version. It acted more like it was doing a complete install, rather than just an update. When It completed an error message appeared that stated "errors where encountered". It did not say what the errors were. It had modified some of my original settings and also had deleted my "Recycle Bin". Also, there is not an entry in the "Start/All Programs" listing for the new version, just the old. There seems to be a problem keeping the old version and the new version together, because the entry in the "All Programs" points to old version.

Hope some of this makes sense...... :?:

Try uninstalling and installing in the DEFAULT location, this is a similar though different folder than where MWP5/6 are installed.

I have both old and new installed in their default folders here and they do not clash :)

Thanks for your quick response. I really don't want to uninstall and reinstall.. I guess my problem with that is, if you have a choice where to install the new version then it should work correctly. This could be a bug and the developers need to take a look at it....

We haven't catered for installing in the same location, there's plenty of DLLs that both versions use that might conflict. I'd uninstall, keep data files, then reinstall into another folder.

The "html" and "mailpv" are from the old MailWasher

I am sorry for being so stubborn, but I did not install in the same directory. The old version was in "Program Files/FireTrust" and the new version is in "Program Files/Firetrust/MailWasherPro"

Any ways how do you go about "keeping data files" and "DLL's"...

You'll be prompted about keeping your user files. However when you uninstall I expect some of the DLLs will be deleted, after you do that, try running the version you kept, if it doesn't run just reinstall/repair again over the top. Then install the one you did remove into the different folder.

The MailWasher 6.5.4 is here if you need it http://www.firetrust.com/sites/firetrus ... -Setup.exe

I asked the question of support on why both versions, but got no reply. If you delete the 'old' version and the new one doesn't work, as mentioned above, how to you ensure the old mails are still there??

I just want to free up space...

Just install the new version again, if you removed the old and the new doesn't then work.

Tnks, but I saw another post on this which indicated that both might be needed for a while.... ho-hum, I'll hang around.
