I tried MailWasher Pro 1.0.6 - it seemed to work well except my computer hung after being idle for a while with the screen saver... this happened 3 times, and then I just stopped running MailWasher Pro 1.0.6 and went back to running version 6. Since then I haven't had any problems. This may be a conflict with Kaspersky 2011 which I have recently installed... unfortunately, I don't have time to chase this since I need to hard reset my system on each failure. Also, Kaspersky just updated their software with a hotfix (no mention of this problem though), I don't have time to test. If other users are complaining, I guess this is one place to investigate. For now, Mailwasher 6 works just fine.
One comment - the ability to bounce as an action on a filter is gone... which is another reason not to use the new version... any plans on putting that back in?
One question - is it enough to add an address to the friends list or blacklist or do I need a filter that references it (spam rule type)? There is no checkmark to say whether a filter takes precedence over the friend/black list - how does that work?
Update: I should mention that with the latest versions of Kaspersky, I haven't seen this problem and have switched back to the new MailWasher Pro.

Does your machine go into any kind of Hibernate/Sleep etc...when in screensaver mode ?JohnA wrote:I tried MailWasher Pro 1.0.6 - it seemed to work well except my computer hung after being idle for a while with the screen saver... this happened 3 times, and then I just stopped running MailWasher Pro 1.0.6 and went back to running version 6. We don't plan to, but always open. The Bounce isn't useful against spam any more, so it's being pulled back from the main user interface, it's design is intended for bouncing legitimate sendersJohnA wrote:One comment - the ability to bounce as an action on a filter is gone... which is another reason not to use the new version... any plans on putting that back in?
Filters now run over messages whether on the Friends List/Blacklist or not, all Spam Tools combine and MailWasher decides the final outcome based on that. You could though for example create a Filter that said, if user is on my blacklist, then automatically delete the email....but there's no need to create a filter specifically for any real reason.JohnA wrote:One question - is it enough to add an address to the friends list or blacklist or do I need a filter that references it (spam rule type)? No, it's a desktop and the only thing that happens (as per configuration) is that the monitor shuts off after 40 minutes... but I think programs like Google Desktop work when idle...rusticdog wrote: Does your machine go into any kind of Hibernate/Sleep etc...when in screensaver mode ??
I use the bounce against legitimate users... I don't use it as a catchall for spam... but I want to have a list of legitimate users that I can automatically bounce...JohnA wrote:One comment - the ability to bounce as an action on a filter is gone... which is another reason not to use the new version... any plans on putting that back in?

I'm not a fan of forged bounces as they are often abused and don't fool anyone (maybe trick a dumb program though) these days unless they are pretty near completely clueless. Better to do an auto-delete and be done with the stuff rather than providing the person sending you the junk the fun of knowing they are making you jump at their command and fake bounces back to them.
Besides if the bounce worked you'd only have to bounce one message per sender to get rid of them! :-)
Re: System hangs
Create a filter to trigger on these messages and sort/group on the status column to put them together and they will be easier to bounce.JohnA wrote: I use the bounce against legitimate users... Re: System hangs
It actually works but sometimes takes more than one bounce since bounces can happen because of server problems. Anyway, The people I bounce would take me off to get rid of annoying messages... I don't think they would care if it was from a server or not... If I could automatically reply with a getlost message, thatwould be the same thing.

I'll give you the "annoying messages" issue, I know how aggravated I am to open my inbox to thousands of bounces!

Re: System hangs
I think we could consider adding this but with come kind of warning mechanism. The core element of bounce behaviour has been altered, and whilst a Custom Filter action could be used as a work around to send mass bounces, folk would by that time can be educated to understand why we made the changes we did.
