I've just moved to a Windows 7 computer and just upgraded to MWP2010. The new version looks and functions fine so far with one little glitch - when I click on the button to open my email client (which I didn't have to do in the previous version - it opened automatically after I washed mail. Is there a way to restore this behavior?) I get an error message - "incorrect login: type <username>... ".
Where is MWP looking for the email client's UID/PW? How does it call the email client? Anybody know how to fix this?

Be sure and tick the box below the selection.

MWP has already found and linked to my email client and it is listed as the "email program". The problem is that my email program requires a login and this new MWP doesn't seem to have anyplace to enter the login information. MWP 6.5.3 didn't have any problem.
So the question is - when MWP tries to start my email client HOW does it do it? Where does it keep/find the information about the email client and how does it generate the command line to start it?

It is my understanding that your email client is identified by the Registry via the Default application settings from the Internet Explorer settings. I know that the actual command prompt for Outlook is located there.

Yeah it looks here for the mail clients installed
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail

Then each one has a Shell Open Command which is what MailWasher uses
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\shell\open\command


You want to check your email program shortcut (one that works) right click the shortcut, select Properties, take a look what's under the Target command, that might have something different. Just copy/paste this into MailWasher if need be, with the email program option selected 'Use other application'

Where exactly in MWP would I copy this to? Settings|General|Washing Mail shows Virtual Access (my email client) as the Email program. But it doesn't give me any way to edit the Shell Open Command.

You don't want to be editing the registry, use the MW settings instead.

Select Use Other Application and you will have a box to enter.

How's this for an answer out of left field?

MY ISP is Bigpond (Ok - you can stop laughing) - they are the only one's who provide highspeed cable to where I live so .... grrr.

Recently (and so far without any customer notification) they apparently changed the format of passwords that customers can use. Specifically, we are not to use uppercase characters. I only fund out about this (and I'm still uncertain if this is yet more Tesltra BS so treat with caution) because I could not log onto my ISP usage page to change my plan. I'd not changed my password in ages (yeah - not a good thing) and was still able to web browse and see emails on the ISP server (MWP 6.xx) and download emails (OUTLOOK 2007).

Mixing cases in passwords is regarded as a good thing - never ever heard such BS before but then, well, I am talking about Telstra so who the heck knows.

BTW - it did not escape my notice that if what they said was true then how the hell was I able to see and download my emails for months when, according to the password advice from Telstra, my 'old' (unchanged) password was wrong? Yeah ... that and flying pigs will just about make my day.

If all else fails, check to see what is going on with your ISP - once I 'reset' my password life was returned to normal. (And no - I don't believe what they told me except that my Firefox usage addon failed during the same period and it used the same username / login combination that failed when I tried to log into my Telstra web mail ...) Weird does not begin to describe this.
