MWP2010 - 2-for1 offer for subscribers?

Sun Aug 08, 2010 3:03 am

Hello:

Longtime MWP user here.

Just registered my MWP2010 on my laptop, and received the discounted upgrade price as expected.

However, I thought that Firetrust was offering a 2-for-1 deal for existing subscribers?

I would like to upgrade to 2010 on my desktop, but want to be sure I will at least be offered the same $10 upgrade price or, as promised, the chance to upgrade on a 2nd machine for free.

I know there were MANY threads on this after the 2010 launch, but I never did find the definitive answer on this.

So, how do I get the free upgrade for my 2nd machine?

TIA,

daledoc1

RD will have to give you the definitive answer but I think they changed the process so that you should be able to use the same reg number on your second machine.

Thanks, sidewinder, I'll await his reply.

FWIW, the invoice was pretty explicit about "1 user", so I don't know if there's something at the back end at will allow me to use the key a 2nd time...

Will await RD's help.

Thanks,

daledoc1

PS I've been following the boards since the 2010 release and finally took the plunge on 1 machine today. I must say, the new version does take some work with tweaking settings, and the new GUI. I'm not "sold" just yet -- since I get very little spam and am a big believer in the KISS principle when it comes to computers, MWP 6.5.4 seems fine for my needs. Will try 2010 on the LT for a while before installing on my DT. Thanks!

MWP v1.0.9+ Allows 1 laptop and 1 desktop per license, though I don't know how they detect PC type :)

The change communicated was consistent with the 1 user two systems.

There is a quantum improvement in the technology used in the new version. Spammers continually alter their methods and technology to get around the known detection tools. I think that you will find that the time required to "train" the new version is time well spent.

Hello, Anniebrion:

Thanks!

I thought I might wait a bit before installing on my desktop.
I assume the 1-year sub starts from the date of the first installation on the first machine, when the key is used for the first time?
IOW, the clock is already ticking for my 1-year sub on the desktop, too, even though I haven't installed/registered it?
Or, will the clock start on the 2nd machine the day I register that 2nd installation?

My desktop is my main machine and, since I largely telecommute, reliable email functionality (ISP, email client, MSGTAG, MWP) is vital.
So, my 2nd question is this:
I assume that installing MWP 2010 alongside MWP 6.5.4, which is working just fine an is EASY to use, will NOT in any way corrupt or otherwise create problems with 6.5.4?

Thanks,

daledoc1

Both will work fine independently. Just remember though not at the same time with regard to deleting messages from the mail server. That will cause grief.

Also don't have them try to fetch mail at the same time. Some mail servers disallow it or you may get timeouts.

The countdown starts as soon as you get/purchase your license regardless of MWP being installed or used.

Thanks, Anniebrion and Sidewinder.

If I have any trouble activating the 2nd installation, I'll post back.

In the interim, I'm d/ling some of the custom wav files posters submitted on another thread....
I already have HAL notifying me of new mail on the laptop.

Thanks for your help -- I'm sure I'll be back with additional questions at some point.

I do greatly appreciate your prompt and expert assistance,

Sorry to bump, but just thought I might catch RD here --

Is there still an option for old paid subscribers to get a license for a 2nd machine with a paid upgrade to 2010?

I just installed & registered MWP 2010.1.0.10 on my LT yesterday and would like to proceed with the upgrade on my DT.

Will the license key work for the 2nd machine (didn't see anything about it during the payment/invoice process), or did that "2-for-1" offer expire?

TYVMIA,

daledoc1

PS INot yet comfortable with the new UI. :| But I think the engineering and functionality of 2010 looks greatly improved. Thanks for all your hard work on the new version :) .
