MW Pro 2010

Thu Aug 19, 2010 10:41 am

I've downloaded the new version of Mailwasher Pro 2010 and it appears to have imported my settings from the old version but it will not log in to my email provider.

The old version still works.

I had the same problem. The update imports settings poorly. In my case no account passwords were imported, several accounts did not have smtp server data imported and worst of all, none of my carefully tuned spam filters were imported requiring me have to re-create them manually. Also the "learned" spam/non-spam were not imported at all so that the new MW has to start from scratch.

Seems like a prettier interface at the price of a loss of a lot of what was available in the earlier version. The jury is out as to whether this is a worthwhile update.

When you say, "new version", can you please be a bit more specific?

Are you saying that you're having problems going from v. 6.* to v. 2010?

Or do you mean the issue is with upgrading from the current build of MWP2010 (1.0.10) to the one just released (1.0.15)?

Is anyone having issues with 1.0.15?

Thanks,

A few little things like message selection in .15 have been mentioned but nothing big so far.

I mean upgrading from v.6 to v. 2010 (paid version). I did not know there was an earlier version of 2010.

As you can see that upgrade was far from smooth for me and especially aggravating was the non-migration of my filters. I may just stick with v.6 Not enough benefits to go through all the aggravation.

Hi, Stan_gaz:

Is that a new issue?

Is it OK to update from within the program, or best to download a copy of the installer and run it, assuming that even makes sense?

Sorry to be so high-maintenance -- I've been working for about 10 days now to reconstitute my computer (thank you, McAfee) from a factory image.

I am completely exhausted with (re)installing and updating software these days, not to mention crashes, conflicts and other issues.

Thanks,

daledoc1

PS FWIW, I took the plunge and went right to MWP2010 on the desktop, without bothering to reinstall version 6.
Aside from the wonky sound thing (which was an issue even with version 6 on this particular platform, so it must relate either to Win7/64 or my audio hardware?), the new version is fine. :D

Well, "check for updates" tells me I am UTD.

So, I guess that answers my question.
Time to go out to the website and DL the installer, I guess? :?:

Anderson, Lots of versions of 2010 out there, starting from below 1.0.0 up to 1.0.15 now, seem to be coming out every week or two as they hammer bugs and issues or add features.

Daledoc1, Either upgrade method works just fine. I like to download and install betas myself since I get forum notices as soon as the new version is posted but for released versions I've been forcing a version update check manually and letting the updater do the work. The default on the updater is 7 days so waiting for the auto check could put you a bit behind the power curve on updates. Really best to just ignore it and get the forum notice, leave the auto-updater for folks that aren't forum members.

Answering questions is what I do for fun while I wait for a new beta to be released, it is cheaper than any other recreation I have available and it keeps me out of the wife's way.

You have my sympathy on your Windows issues, I quit using it many years ago and switched to Linux, I even run the Linux version of MW (no longer available) as my main mail filter. I just use Windows for beta testing and I live in fear of having to reinstall it even though I have every program and driver copied off to CD so it won't get lost when Windows packs it in.

----------

If help - about shows you at 1.0.15 you are up to date, if you ran the updater and it didn't find .15 and you are on an older version then you may have an issue with the updater. I'd start an new topic on that if it is the case.

Hi, Stan_gz:

When I say, "updater" I did not mean the auto-updater.
I guess I wasn't very clear.

The auto-updater is set for every 5 days, which I think is the default.
I'm not sure about the directory for the destination for the update checks, but I left that on the default setting.

My problem is that when I manually check by clicking the "help" dropdown menu and clicking "check for updates", it tells me I am UTD, even though the next version *is* out.
And, when I go to the DL link and DL the installer, I get an error message.

There now seem to be 2 or 3 threads on this (probably ***my** unintentional doing, for which I apologize ) :(

So, RD, please feel free to merge them, as you see fit.
And, naturally, I'm still looking for a solution. :?:

Thanks,

Re: my upgrading problem (first post). I entered my email account details manually and it is now working correctly.

I have been using Mailwasher since it's earliest days (10 years+?)and have continuously upgraded. This was the first time I have had a problem - probably because MW 2010 is like a complete rebuild.

HI Daledoc1,

Since you asked...Yes. I noticed today that 1.0.15 was ready to go on my desktop XP system. I checked my laptop (Vista) later and it shows 1.0.10 and says it is UTD. I selected CHECK FOR UPDATES and it still says UTD. It is auto set to the default of checking for updates every 2 days. Not sure if this is a bug or not...but I"m sure that some of the experts will tell me (hopefully soon). I'm going to wait for a response in case someone has something for me to try before I go to the page and manually d/l it. :help

I'd just manually do it, there was another quirk we've fixed in the new version that might be preventing the automatic check working right

Wilco. It was nice to see it waiting for me on XP. The problem was with Vista.
