Hi,
Well done on the new application, what a shame you didn't email subscribers seeking Beta Testers, it could have avoided my current problem.
I installed MWP 2010 and the first problem encountered was with the porting of email accounts across from the previous version, email addresses were inserted but account details, including passwords were omitted.
Second problem came out of the blue, the program just stopped working, froze the whole system. Once I had rebooted, I was confronted by a message box from MWP 2010 informing me that there had been a problem and I needed to report it, however I could not enter any information in the box and the only way to get rid of it was to 'X' it.
Third problem was as a result of the second problem and involved reporting the error to MS. I clicked 'report the problem' and once the problem had been sent, a second box opened to advise that there was a solution to the problem and that MWP and CA Security Centre were not good mates and didn't get along very well. It also advised that CA had issued a fix and that it was available on their site.....damned if I could find it, but that is a seperate issue that I have taken up with CA.
I like the look of the new MWP, and when it works it seems to be faster than the old version, trouble is I can only get it to work one in every five attempts. I am also not happy at losing the Spamcop reporting function and can only hope that it reappears soon.
I look forward to some updates and hopefully fixes to the problems I have outlined.
Wal

Re: MWP has serious problem when working with CA Security Centre
The password import seems to be hit and miss, what email client are you using ?
The CA Security Centre is a real nuisance. The crash is inside their email scanner isafeif.dll
I can see the Windows Error Report response they created which doesn't link to a direct download. Turning off the email scanner helps, but CA Security Centre then decides that such an action is a major security risk and constantly tells you are at risk with no way to disable the popup.
I'll be frank, I installed CA Security Centre and it's without a doubt the worst major security suite I've come across, and it doesn't surprise me that none of the testers run this. I'm not being critical against your choice to run it, it likely been flawless for you up until now and provided great features. But for me, when compared to other programs I've seen, it was just plain awful.
I'd be very keen to hear how you get on with CA and if their new version actually does fix the problem.

Re: MWP has serious problem when working with CA Security Centre
G'day Rusticdog,
Thanks for the response, I always find it useful to read the views of others.
CA has been my security of choice for longer than I care to remember. I started back in the days of VET and although I have tried most of the others, I keep coming back to CA, I trust them and I guess the proof of the pudding is in the eating; I've had no security problems, not one. What I do find a bit disturbing, is the difference in behaviour between the old version of MWP and the new one. If the old version was comfortable with CA, then why not the new one? Obviously the developers of MWP haven't done a very good job with their homework and should have forseen a problem with CA software. I have no programming background, I just try software and buy it if I like it, If it doesn't work I usually ditch it and find something that does. However, I like MWP and I intend to persevere with it until I get something that works for me. I'll go across the the CA forum and mention isafeif.dll and see what falls out of the tree, could be interesting.
In answer to your question about email client, I use MS Outlook until Open Office come up with something that fills the same multifunction role.
Cheers, and thanks for the feedback,
Wal

Yeah I do recall the days of VET, never had issue with that.
It depends on the nature of the crash, but we don't have any control over their email scanner. But as they've already posted a fix, then presumably they've come across an issue.

Re: MWP has serious problem when working with CA Security Centre
Therein lies the problem, Microsoft says that a fix has been posted but the link from MS to CA takes you to the Q&A for the Security Suite and there is definately no fix shown there. Their software might float my boat but their attitude to their customers definately sinks it. I posted a question about this issue on their forums 8 hours ago and it still hasn't passed the moderator and made it to the board; thank God a life doesn't depend on it.
Is there a capture mechanism within MWP that can log everything that is happening? Something that would identify where and how the problem occurs? Something else that also occurs to me, what services does MWP depend on, what are its dependancies?
Cheers,
Wal

Rusticdog, you are gooooooooooooood!!!
I managed to cause the crash then had a look at the system log, the following was reported:
Faulting application mailwasherproapp.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module isafeif.dll, version 9.1.0.0, fault address 0x00003de6.
Looks as if you hit the nail on the head, isafeif.dll is the culprit...........good one
Cheers,
Wal

The response to the crash CA posted takes me here http://cainternetsecurity.net/Support/D ... lang=en-US
Under Customer Care on the left >> Download >> I can be taken through a whole bunch of confusing links and solutions...
Hopefully the forum can point you in the right direction of downloading the most up to date version.

Re: MWP has serious problem when working with CA Security Centre
I have emailed CA twice seeking some help and, as I suspected, they haven't even had the decency to respond; I've encountered their total lack of support in the past and on that occasion it took an email to their CEO to get their asses moving. Not this time though, I've had enough of CA's customer support; dammit, if their software wasn't as good as it is, I'd move on to something else.
I have found a temporary and not very satisfactory solution to the problem by exiting MW once I have checked the mail only starting the program when I need to.
Do you have any new information regarding the implementation of the Spamcop resource? I'm really missing it and feel as if I'm letting the spammers off the hook.
Cheers,
Wal

We've started work on the UI for Spam Reporting, I've expect it to be a few weeks before it's out in the wild.
What if you just disable the automatic checks in MailWasher, then just hit Check Mail manually when you want to check the accounts. Right clicking Sys Tray icon also has this option.
