What could be done about it?

Try repairing .net 3.5 in Add/remove programs.

MWP is not using .Net 4 at this time.

This sound to me like you may have a bad download copy. Try to uninstall MWP from the Control Panel. Download a fresh copy of V.15 and try a new install.

Make sure you have .net 3.5 SP1 installed. If you do - try repairing it through the control panel.

I'm actually not able to repair .net 3.5 - I'm on Windows 7 and can only switch it on or off through "Turn Windows features on and off", which I tried more than once (together with more playing around with various versions of .net), but to no avail. The problem repeats itself with the latest version too...

You first probably want to just put 1.0.19 over the top, just in case http://www.firetrust.com/products/mailw ... 0/download

If the problem persists let me know and we'll see about getting some log files to try and determine the fault.

... oops, stupid me, I should've been more diligent and made a really clean uninstall before starting to complain. Now, as the last pot-shot at the problem, I deleted the folder you indicated (C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Firetrust\MailWasher) and oh my the program works! Sorry for the bother and thanks for guiding me in the right direction!

OK great, glad it's sorted but for the record you shouldn't need to do a full uninstall. It would have been a bad file or setting of some kind preventing the startup, so if this problem comes back, just rename the folder instead of deleting. That way if need be we can get a copy of the info to try and determine what might cause this and how we can prevent in future.
