Unusual Mailwasher Pro 2010 interaction with Zonealam?

Mon Aug 23, 2010 10:48 am

Hi all,

Details:
- Win XP Home SP3
- Mailwasher Pro 2010 Trial
- Zonealarm Pro v8.0.298.000

I'm noticing some unusual Zonealarm activity after installing MW 2010. Pre MW 2010, the System Tray icon for ZA is quiet if there is no internet activity and shows an icon with the letter Z.

Now there is constant low level activity on both the red/green send and receive channels, pulsing at about once a second.

I've traced this activity to MailWasherProApp.exe in the ZA program listings. When I disable this process in ZA, the activity stops but MW does not connect to the server to check for mail.

Can anyone tell me what might be going on?

Many thanks.

That seems to be a quirk of ZA when running MW 2010. I have the same on my laptop. It has been there ever since beta testing. It is nothing to worry about.

MW uses the internal network in your computer to talk between the two components, it has to be allowed to talk or nothing can be done.

I don't know Zone Alarm but have seen it mentioned here several times, you might search and see if anyone found a way to tell it to ignore MW.

I'm not currently running ZA but have done so in the past. There used to be a method of telling ZA that it was OK for both of the MWP exe files to talk to each other. If I remember an earlier post I think the activity is on 127.0.0.0 so maybe you can clear that with ZA.

Correction to previous post:
127.0.0.1 need to be listed in the Trusted Zone.

Pretty much all as above. I installed the latest Zone Alarm Free onto my laptop a couple of days ago also, and I don't get the constant flicker indicating traffic.

I can't see anything different I did except making sure MailWasherPro.exe and MailWasherProApp.exe have full rights for both Internet and Trusted Zones, (including server rights) and adding 127.0.0.1 into the Trusted Zone.
