Complete Disaster

First, I am unhappy that the email I received inviting the upgrade to 2010 did not make clear this is a beta version.
Installed 2010, it opened on installation OK but when I moved the cursor the PC froze, everything started working at a snail's pace and the error message "Driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered. The recovery lasted for a few seconds and the cycle then started again. Only way to get out of the cycle (Task manager froze also) was to disconnect the machine.
Have a Sony Vaio, core 2 duo, all drivers upto date, Windows completely up to date also.
Tried again and this time the bounds of the application window appeared but nothing else - the desktop still showing through - then screen went black and cycle started again. By waiting ages and moving the cursor a few centimeters at a time before the next crash, was able to disable 2010.
CPU was running a consumption of 96%, no wonder everything was slow.
Help.
