Also Struggling Recently

Fri Jun 20, 2025 11:21 am

I don't know if this is similar to the other active topic, but lately MW is getting stuck at the end of checking and then Wash Mail does not become available:

Is there something to refresh, make some logs smaller, etc.

cheers!

(BTW: Been using MW for years and years.)

Yes, I'd recommend you first try disabling Firstalert, as we've noticed a few users having issues with this:

Settings>>Spam Tools>>Firstalert, uncheck, "Use Firstalert" and click Save.

If no better, disable any servers listed under Settings>>Spam Tools>>Origin of Spam, click Save.

Let me know if that helps....?

uncheck, "Use Firstalert; "
disable... Origin of Spam, click Save.
Thanks for the tips. FirstAlert was already unchecked, I did have SpamCop (bl.spamcop.net) checked, I unchecked it and it didn't help.

(BTW: There's no save button there, on the options page, the save button is not activated, so I clicked and unclicked and Auto delete, and that got me the save button)

Is there any other steps. It seemingly hangs at the end of every evaluation.

When I press stop, it takes about 20 seconds before Wash Mail is available, and the <Stop> sign is long gone from <Check Mail>

So, it's cramping my style!

Also, somewhere down the line, it takes MW 6 or 7 seconds from loading the program to 'Check default accounts when MailWasher starts' I don't know if that's a clue or not, but always till then it started checking immediately.

cheers. ;)

OK, sorry that did not help, in that case, please try clearing the cache...

Click Settings>>Checking Mail, click the “Clear Cache” button. (Note that this is disabled until the current Mail check has completed)
During this process the inbox mail grid will be cleared, (NO emails will be deleted though) and when process finished, the mail check will start for default accounts.

If no better, possibly your MWP.db3 database is corrupt.

(NOTE: this holds your learning settings, and blacklist/friendslist, so the below will reset these sorry).

If you can start MWPro and it will run OK....

Click Help>>User files in MWPro.
Minimise the folder that opens.
Click File>>Exit to close MWPro.
Maximise the folder, then open the Cache folder.

Then, (With MWPro closed) rename the MWP.db3 file to MWP1.db3 and restart MWPro, let me know how that goes....

Thanks for that info, I tried it but it didn't change. My .db3 went from 29,500k to 590 k. That was after I managed to get my whitelist back. (Played with the copy db3 a bit)

I don't want to lose my accounts, but other than that I can try some other things if you have any. I have 29 files in the cache folder and 131in the crypto folder. This on 32 em accounts in MW.

I found a not great work-around for now. When it's stuck (basically on every full check-mail, I can click the Check Mail down arrow and have it check a single account and it takes it out of stuck mode and checks that (quickly) and I get access to the wash mail button.

OK, thanks for that info, and in that case, OK, in that case, can I please have some logs as per below directions:

- Use MWPro until it's stuck, (wait a couple of mins)
- Click Help>>Send Support Logs.
- Write a note referring to this post (copy/paste the link from the address bar in your web browser)
- Click "Send Logs"

Then, reply to this to let me know the logs have been sent in case they do not arrive for any reason...

OK, so, I took a look at the logs and the report it wants to send. Looking thru the logs, I found one account that was different than the others. With little info between entries / sent-receive. So, I unclicked that from the include in send receive and it's working ok again.

Along the way I lost most of my colorings. Like especially my 'good' status and 'friend' status. Bummer on that. I put back the original mwp.db3 but I didn't get them back. The main thing I didn't want to loose was the accounts, which I went thru one-by-one a few days ago, switching to passkeys on my msn/outlook and gmail accts. I also changed all my passwords, even though on one new account I could leave it blank by using the google login / passkey.

I scoured the db3 to see if I could save anything. I seemed to have only a handful of friends list and only one blacklist, but that can't be cause I've got hundreds a least.

Anyway, all's well. Any reason MW takes 5->6 seconds from 'Check Mail' to the first item in the status bar changes from 'Idle'?

OK sure thing, good to hear it is working now.... re the colours, do you mean the red/green does not show at all now?

All lines are the same colour? or are the faded etc....?

Re the delay after clicking Check Mail, that sounds about normal, you could try changing the 'check throttle' under settings>>general>>checking mail and see if increasing or decreasing that helps at all though....

Also trying settings under settings>>general>>performance may also help....
