Hi guys. I've just got a new PC, running Windows 7, which has Windows Live Mail instead of the Outlook Express I was used to.
I have read the instructions about how to stop Windows Live Mail downloading automatically (so Mailwasher can catch the mail) and unchecked the "check mail every XX mins" box, but still some mails seem to be sneaking through, when I have not synchronised, and I have not "washed" them.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas how to stop it?
Thanks
Helen.

Re: Windows Live Mail downloading automatically
I'm not familiar with Windows Live Mail but if they store the settings in the Registry , then you may need to restart your system.

Re: Windows Live Mail downloading automatically
I don't suppose you have a Hotmail account, apparently by design or a bug WLM will still collect Hotmail messages automatically despite the option being switched off.

Re: Windows Live Mail downloading automatically
Hi Rustic Dog - no I don't have a hotmail account.
I have a Yahoo account (no probs there, although I get very few message on that anyway so I can't be sure).
My main email account is on waitrose.com and that worked fine with Mailwasher under Outlook Express, but now it is sneaking mails through, as I explained.
Any suggestions on how to stop it?
Thanks
Helen.

Re: Windows Live Mail downloading automatically
Here might be a solution.
There is an option to have WLM do the Send/Receive when the application starts. If you have WLM set to load when windows starts that may be why you see the sneakers.
Here the solution is shown:

Re: Windows Live Mail downloading automatically
Thanks Sidewinder - unfortunately I had already done this and they are still sneaking in!
However, I have just had this suggestion from Bob Lucas on the Windows Live Mail forum, which I think may have cracked the problem, so I'm posting it in case anyone else is interested:
AFAIK, the only way to achieve this is to exclude the mail
account from automatic synchronization. The following guidance
applies to Wave 4 versions of WLMail (version 14.x.xxxx.xxxx).
Wave 5 beta (version 15.x.xxxx.xxxx) may differ.
Click on Tools / Accounts
Select the name of the account and click on Properties
Under the General tab, uncheck the box marked 'Include this
account when receiving mail or synchronizing'
Save your changes
Having made this change, You will still be able to synchronize
manually, by clicking on the down arrow to the right of the Sync
icon. Then, click on the name of the mail account.
However, you must remember to perform manual synchronization
periodically because from now on, WLMail will not download
messages automatically.
