When trying to open User or Common files in MW2010 my VLC player starts and (of course) gives an error message. I checked the associations in the player, but nothing seems to interfere there.
Anybody has any idea what causes this and (more importantly) how to solve this?

If yes then if you go to those folders with Windows Explorer does the same thing happen?
Re: VLC player and User Files / Common Files
How are you accessing them? From the Help menu in MWP 2010.Zooi wrote:When trying to open User or Common files in MW2010 my VLC player starts and (of course) gives an error message. I checked the associations in the player, but nothing seems to interfere there.

I'll hazard a guess as a non-windows expert, look to your file associations for VLC and see if it somehow got associated with the wrong stuff.

Re: VLC player and User Files / Common Files
Sidewinder:
1. I already use v 1.1.4 of the VLC player
2. Indeed did I tried to open User and Common files from the Help menu. Now when I try "User files .." VLC opens, tries to open lots of files with long numbers and after some 15 seconds it stops and nothing is displayed.
When I try Common Files VLC says the format of C:\ProgramData\Firetrust\MailWasher\mwp_inw.dat cannot be detected. I can open them though with Notebook.
What are those .dat files anyway as the one (mwp_conv.dat) displays lots of things about Viagra and the file I just mentioned only contains the word "sex"? .
stan_qaz: I haven't seen anything wrong with the associations, but, as I don't get results when clicking on User or Common files, I don't know exactly what extensions to look for in the list with associations.

The internal workings of MWP are explained here: http://forum.firetrust.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=6270
Try un-installing VLC, use CCleaner to tidy up then re-install VLC be extra careful of what associations are made

Re: VLC player and User Files / Common Files
Tell us what OS you are running and then we can direct you to the location of the folders where the files are stored and you can then check the file extensions with Windows Explorer against VLC.

Re: VLC player and User Files / Common Files
What a weird thing to have happen. I wonder if that directory is somehow added to a VLC Playlist so when it opens VLC tries to autoplay the files ?
In the Start >> All Programs >> VideoLAN >> there's an option to reset the VLC Settings back to default, might be worth trying that.
