One of my email accounts does not connect

Thu Sep 09, 2010 11:39 pm

I am using Mailwasher Pro 2010 version 1.0.15 with Windows 7 (64 bit). I have several email accounts but one of them fails on connect to the server. I have used auto detect accounts to bring it in from Outlook 2010 but it still fails - it does work on Outlook. On my previous version of MS mail I had no problems. I have double checked the entry which all looks fine.

The latest version is v1.0.19: http://firetrust.com/sites/firetrust.co ... 082010.exe

Have you tried retyping the password and clicking save, sometimes passwords are not imported properly.

You're lucky - I have seven email accounts and NONE of them connected.
I am about to check the Port settings, if I can find them. Gmail, for example, uses non-standard port settings, so that would be the first thing to check.
Otherwise check the SMTP--- and POP---- addresses, as these can differ from one email provider to another.
Now I need to go and see if I can find the page to adjust the settings. I am not keen on the new version at first look - I don't like fancy, space-wasting stuff.. The icons look huge on my screen (set to a lowish resolution to avoid eyestrain).
OK I found the settings and they are all correct on mine.
Even though I have paid for the new version, I do not like it AT ALL. It is much slower (the old version would check all my accounts within seconds - this has taken over three minutes so far to check one account.
I am going to delete this and re-install the old version.

That implies a setup issue, there's nothing within the new MailWasher that would make a legitimate check that works take that long if it had no emails.

@Helvetica

FYI, it is always better to set your monitor to its native resolution and increase the DPI setting in windows to make things bigger. This is more important when using a TFT as things will become blurry when not using the native resolution.

I have my TFT set to 168x1050 but have the DPI set to 125% as this enlarges the fonts, icons enough to make it more comfortable to my eyes.

MWP2010 has font & Icon zoom levels in the Quick Display settings, so playing with these should get it to how you want :)

I have reentered the password which I know works as I use it elsewhere. I still get "failed to connect to server".

I got the logs Pepper, I note the service provider indicates the POP server should be pop3.hosts.co.uk though I don't think that really matters, as when you connect to both servers they give the same reply 'NamesCo MUA Server'

To be sure the password is correct, you may want to download something like Asterisk Revealer, which when you go into the old MailWasher account settings with this running, it will load the password instead of showing asterisks. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/astlog.zip
Though it doesn't work with the new MailWasher unfortunately, so you cannot compare.

Hi Chris
I only have latest version on Mailwasher as I have changed laptop to Windows 7 so cannot use the program. I checked the password by going directly to my internet account so know that there are no hidden characters. As my laptop does not highlight when it using caps I have even tried typing the password in word and copy and pasting it without the carriage return into Mailwasher. No joy
Very puzzled.

Does your password contain any weird characters other than a-z A-Z 0-9 ?

We had a problem in the past with special characters causing a problem but that was fix ages ago.
