Windows 7 64x will not shut down ....

Fri Oct 01, 2010 10:41 am

MailWasher 2010 1.0.27 running on Win7 64bit.

Right now when I shut down Win7, I get an error message from Windows. I have to hit the "Force Restart" button to get Win7 to shut down properly (or restart properly). That screen notes that MailWasher is preventing shutdown.

Any ideas how to get MailWasher 1.0.27 to exit gracefully and without hanging up Win7

Thanks.

For what it's worth, I've had exactly the same problem. It's intermittent (i.e., doesn't happen on every shut down). I'm also running Windows 7, 64 bit.

We've made a fix in the latest beta for this, if you want to try it out the download link is http://mailwasherbeta.s3.amazonaws.com/ ... 092010.exe

There's no major complaints from testers about this version, so I see no issue trying it.

Actually it isn't just a 64x issue. I've got the same issue on 32-bit Win7.

Fixed in the Beta version that RD referenced in his post. If you are not comfortable with the Beta then a TWA is to manually close MWP just before shutting down and then wait until the next formal release.

Thanks indeed for that astoundingly obvious TWA that I didn't think of myself! :) I'm perfectly happy to use that and await the next auto-update for the fix of the issue.

I'd like to add that I know the Firetrust team get a lot of hammering for the issues in MWP 2010, but actually, although of course the odd new issues do turn up (and get fixed), overall the program is getting better and working more smoothly with each update, so I don't share the negative and stress-making attitude of so many others who have written in critically. I really appreciate that we are listened to and problems that are reported generally get pretty quickly fixed.
