Hi Nick,

Any news on a fix for the Friend/Wash bug? on average two thirds of my mails don't have the option now.I have the same problem on node.mailwasher.me as well Plus I have to say I am not liking the extra step when you tap the email to categorise it takes you into view then after you block (if you get the option) you have to tap back to get to the list.

Howdy Nick,

I'm confused by the numbers shown in the orange boxes beside the account name.

When I tap the account button, top left, it brings up a list of accounts with the respective email total for each account, when I then check the account there were fewer emails than indicated
— daveadams 10-14

It depends on when it's doing the checking in the background and the number indicates new emails since you last checked.
— nick.bolton 10-14

The numbers are always misleading. At present one account in MW Pro lists 11 e-mails, while MW Android is showing 22 in the orange box for the same account. Often the orange box is displaying a 4 or a 2, but when I check there are no e-mails. When the box is missing, indicating that there are no new e-mails, I check the account and find several new e-mails. Therefore, I ignor the orange box indicators and just check all of the accounts.

When does the app check in with the server? It would be nice if it would do so when the app is opened or brought up on screen, thereby giving meaningful information. Otherwise, I kinda just ignore the boxes and numbers.

@daveadams - Can you remind me which freidn/wash bug you're referring to? We'll change the behaviour of the friend/block buttons displaying (perhaps a tap & hold/long hold to display them) because as you mention, it does take a whole lot more steps than before.

@Tony - Strange behaviour on the email count. In the background MWM will check every 15 minutes, except when you login it will check immediately and while you're using it, it will check every 3 minutes.

Hi Nick

When I tap the email it used to offer View, Friend or Block, in the same screen. Now it takes you to the view screen and then offers Friend or Block, but on at least two thirds of emails I am taken to the view screen with no Friend or Block option, all I can do is tick the Delete. I also get the same behaviour on http://node.mailwasher.me.

Hope that helps.

1. A previous email set doesn't clear when returning to MWM after a substantial wait (well over 3 minutes). When this happens, if I attempt to block one in the old set, the app locks with the working wheel in the center of the screen. Sometimes I can clear this when I display the account and return to the email screen.

2. MWM doesn't always retrieve all of the current emails in Safari. I don't think this is because new emails have arrived since the last MWM refresh.

3. Is the entire email text supposed to display when intending to block with the Friend/Block line at the bottom? This started, I think, in v6. Prior to that you'ld just get a friend/block line below the email you'ld tapped.

PS: I've installed iOS6.0.1 with no apparent impact.

@daveadams - Right, that was an early glitch. If you delete and re-import/re-enter your email account again it should be fixed.

@Carl - Ok, so you're seeing the previous email account and it doesn't clear when you switch accounts. 2. It still might be a timing thing, especially if you look at the time of the last email in MWM and in Safari. 3. We changed this in version .6, but we'll need to add it back in because it's not currently optimal for use (we'll probably bring in a long hold to display these on the home screen)

Howdy Nick,

Thanks for your reply.

In the background MWM will check every 15 minutes, except when you login it will check immediately and while you're using it, it will check every 3 minutes.

I keep my cell phone on (and plugged in to its charger) beside my desk. However, I do not keep aps up and running. Many may be running in the background, but generally I tap and hold the physical button on the center-bottom of my unit, which brings up a list of recent aps. I remove them from the list, to prolong batter life while I'm out and about. Still, when I click on the MW Android icon, it opens right up in whatever last account I had accessed without my having to relogin to the app, so I assume it has been running in the background. Perhaps I am wrong about that.

In my last post I noted that one account showed 22 e-mails, but in reality only had 11 e-mails. In MW Pro I looked at and deleted 7 and left four to get back to later, available on the server for opening either on my phone or desktop. It was lunch time here on a nice Saturday afternoon, and I headed out for lunch. While I was at lunch, I opened MW Android on my phone. It now showed 23 in the orange block for that account, not 22. I opened the account, and sure enough a new e-mail had come in. But that made it a total of five e-males in the account, not 23, and only 1 new e-mail since I last checked that account with MW Pro on my desktop computer.

Granted, I had not checked that account via MW Android since early this morning. Perhaps MW Android is keeping a tally based on the number of unchecked emails when it last checked the server, not based on the number of e-mails actually on the server or already checked by MW Pro. In any case, if the account has no e-mails, MW Android should not show two or four or any "new" emails.

I did not wait for three minutes after opening MW Android before looking at the numbers next to the accounts, but it's supposed to check in with the server immediately when I log in to MW Android. (As I said above, I don't have to actually log-in; the app opens with me logged in.) So I'm kinda unclear what's happening. Does my removing the app from the list of recent apps shut down MW Android, preventing it from checking into the server even though the phone is on and connected to a wireless service? If my phone screen goes dark, does that mean it's in standby mode, preventing MW Android from checking in with the server? I do get notifications about app updates from Google Play and temperature updates from AccuWeather while it's in standby mode, so I don't understand what exactly is happening.

Thanks Tony - I've seen this issue now as well. Told me I have 22 new emails when I only have 4. We'll get on to a fix.

Hi Dave, we'll look in to this as well. Thanks for letting me know.

@ Tony - actually I think the problem with the email count is the following, and perhaps you use IMAP with your accounts or keep messages on the server? MWM will always hold 100 of the latest emails, so if you delete 20 then a few minutes later get 2 new emails, then it will show 22 because it's loaded in another 20 old emails plus 2 new ones. So perhaps it only needs to count the latest new emails.

@ Dave - ok we'll take a look at this again. Initially we found that it had an error collecting the emails.

@ Carl - I've yet to see this in practice, but we'll try and replicate it here

Howdy Nick,

You don't seem to get weekends off.

[Do you] keep messages on the server? MWM will always hold 100 of the latest emails, so if you delete 20 then a few minutes later get 2 new emails, then it will show 22 because it's loaded in another 20 old emails plus 2 new ones.

From my understanding of what you've said, if I leave five e-mails on the account server, and if MW Android has zeroed that count after checking that account, when it next checks that account and finds the five e-mails that were left on the account's server, it will count those five as new e-mails and display a 5 in the orange block. But if I had not used MW Android to check the account, meaning MW Android already had a count of five, then when it recheks the server and finds the five that I left on the server, it counts them as new e-mails and displays a count of ten?

Does it make a difference if I leave the e-mails on the server when I use MW Android, and delete them using MW Pro? Different servers having different counts?

At the moment I am working at my desk using MW Pro on my desktop. In one account there was one e-mail, which was spam, so I deleted it. There were nine e-mails in another account, four of which I did not need to read, so I deleted them, leaving five. Then I opened MW Android. It showed one in the account that previously had one, but that I deleted in MW Pro. There should be zero e-mails in that account. It also showed ten in the account that had nine, but from which I deleted four in MW Pro. I don't know where it picked up the extra one from. When I clicked on that account in MW Android, it still contained complete copies of the e-mails I had deleted with MW Pro.

I then hit the All accounts option. After that, all of the accounts went back to zero, even though there were still e-mails in some of the accounts. The count was correct, though, because there were no new e-mails since the last check. But later, when I reopen MW Android, it will find those five e-mails that I left in that one account and either display a five or, if there are new e-mails, five plus the number of new e=mails. But if I hadn't checked that account with MW Android it would count those five e-mails twice and display ten plus the number of actual new e-mails?

@ Tony - I think what you're seeing is the delay on our server in checking/processing email, that's why you're seeing these different counts. Since it's a hosted service and it's still in testing, we're only checking every 15 minutes, but every 3 minutes if you're using the app or we'll do a check when you login. We have to do it this way at the moment for testing, and some services will block accounts if checking is too frequent (Hotmail as an example only allows 5 checks in 15 minutes). At the moment it's placing a very low load on our server, so as we learn more we'll be able to optimize the checking frequency for certain accounts, or when people are awake in a time zone etc.

So when you delete something in Mailwasher Pro, it can take a few minutes for it to be picked up by MWM. The account selector is just an account switcher, not an account check mail button.

But if I hadn't checked that account with MW Android it would count those five e-mails twice and display ten plus the number of actual new e-mails?

It shouldn't count those emails twice.

Thanks for the concern about working hours :) It's all ok though
