It still doesn't appear to be possible to really disable notifications.
On my JellyBean Galaxy S2, I can partially disable them from the application manager:
Partially because, although there is no longer an icon on the notification bar, the sound notification still occurs.
Now, on my Galaxy Tab tablet, still on ICS, I can't disable notifications at all, as it's not an available option in the application manager:
All other Android apps I have ever seen have their own "disable notifications" function. This is really needed here.

Re: Disabling notifications
With Android, if you disable notifications - it only means visible notifications, the sounds still happen.
In Mailwasher Mobile, if you go to each email account (in version 1.2) you'll see a setting to enable notifications for each email account, so you can disable them there.

And on a related note, just installed v1.4 on my Galaxy GS3 4.1.2, and see that the notification SOUND is still there, even tho I'd disabled the system sounds. Disabling notifications for the icon does work, as noted, but the sound also has zero volume control. A way to control the volume in app is also sorely needed.
