Re: Brave leaks DNS while using HideAway
Unfortunately, I still get DNS leaks to my ISP using Chrome Edge using for example https://ipx.ac/run - I don't get this issue with other VPN's I've tried including AdGuardVPN I'm using now or OVPN / IVPN / Bullet / Mullvad etc (tried these out of interest) -Sorry about this but, not sure where to go now with HideAway? If others are OK, looks like using an alternative VPN.

Hey thanks for the tests, interesting there's quite a few which don't detect it as a leak, but there's a couple which do, including the link you sent. We'll keep investigating.

Re: Brave leaks DNS while using HideAway
When I have a minute tomorrow I'll check which sites show a leak & which don't - It's interesting that some well known sites for leak tests don't show a leak - In others opinion if I don't show any leaks on Firefox for example but do on Edge, am I OK using Firefox with Hideaway?

Re: Brave leaks DNS while using HideAway
Yes, I use Firefox and it works all the time well. When we first started HideAway, we found some of these dns leak sites (most are owned by other VPNs) would give a bit of false info to make their own VPN look better.

Re: Brave leaks DNS while using HideAway
To my regret, Brave, Edge, Chrome - any Chrome based browsers are leaking.
Here is one test site:

Another test site that clearly indicates my ISP DNS servers:
https://browserleaks.com/dns
And this one shows the leak:

Re: Brave leaks DNS while using HideAway
This fixes it.
https://25fc482ddf92aa413bac-f38e90dc86 ... -setup.exe
Close HideAway down before installing this version.
There were some non-standard DNS requests that we were ignoring since they were non-standard. Let me know how you get on

Re: Brave leaks DNS while using HideAway
FYI, HideAway wasn't really leaking, it was just showing the DNS sever used by the ISP, not your real IP. Because A/AAAA records were being done correctly but those testing websites use non-standard DNS record types to test their leak, and one of those we were skipping because it's non standard.

No more DNS leaks.
Now, we are back in business.
Thank you.

It looks like my yesterday's happiness was short-lived.
Here are the new Brave tests today.
From https://www.dnsleaktest.com/results.html
It shows only(!) my ISP DNS. Nothing to do with HideAway.

Re: Brave leaks DNS while using HideAway
For me the problem occurred on a couple of sites which showed 'Virgin Media' my ISP while running HideAway - The latest release (4.40.1) has solved the issue on every site I've tried it on - I've tried it on all the 'leak' sites I have.

Re: Brave leaks DNS while using HideAway
Some interesting facts.
I have three computers connected to my local network (no domain.)
And only one computer with Chrome-based browsers is leaking.
The other two are not leaking my ISP DNS while using Chrome-based browsers.
It's really strange, because all my computers - different models but with Windows 11 - have the same Bitdefender AV, the same browsers, the same extensions.

If you want to experiment with a chrome based browser, try ""ungoogled chromium"
Version 112.0.5615.138 (Official Build, ungoogled-chromium) (64-bit)
It seems to be very fast and is claimed to be free of google junk.
Extensions are a bit tricky to install but i am very impressed so far.
Maybe give it a try and see if the problem still exists

Re: Brave leaks DNS while using HideAway
Since the Secure DNS option in Brave doesn't seem to be doing the trick
Go ahead and manually set up a secure DNS server in your browser's security settings. Give Cloudflare, NextDNS, or Google's DNS servers a shot. This could be your ticket to stop those pesky ISP DNS leaks when using HideAway for where am i.
