Started Hideaway 4.19 as normal and it started to download an update. Then required a "Run As" administrator dialog, which then opened a cmd screen which stayed blank. After some time this disappeared and Hideaway tried to start, but failed due to driver not being initialised.
I tried uninstalling followed by a reboot, then downloaded a fresh copy of 4.20.1 and ran install. It seemed to install, and says it's starting but then disappears. Rinse and repeat.
Uninstalled again, tried reinstalling 4.19, which was successful, but as soon as that started, it tried to download an update. This was completed and says it's starting but then disappears. Rinse and repeat.
How can I get Hideaway working again?

Re: Update to 4.20.1 fails
Further information - I tried downloading and installing 4.20.1 on another similar PC that has never had Hideaway installed, and exactly the same problem occurs - the installation appears to be successful but the program starts and disappears. There is no way of entering a license key, no connect / disconnect screen, and no way of selecting a VPN endpoint. The download is directly from Firetrust's site.

Are you on Windows 7?
This version updates the driver and it unfortunately removes support for Windows 7. We can make a build with the previous driver that will work on Windows 7.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes, Win 7 (I know, I know). I subsequently read the 4.20.1 release notes and realised that was likely the problem.
If you can provide a final build with the previous driver that would be enormously appreciated. I don't mind not getting future updates, and I'm prepared to live with the security implications.
Cheers,

Ok, we've done a version with Windows 7

It won't update from this point forward.

Re: Update to 4.20.1 fails
Many thanks for this. I also had a problem after the automatic update recently.
I was wondering if the same fate lies ahead for Mailwasher for Win 7 users? If so, can you please give an option not to update - I've got a lifetime licence and I'd prefer it to work until I can upgrade my OS/PC.
Thanks again!
Russ

MailWasher should be good, the only issue we had recently was the availability of the web viewer for previews, as that had to be updated and didn't support Windows XP
