Firewall issue with Hideaway updates

When Hideaway updates it changes something that causes my firewall to block it until I allow it to pass. When it checks the license online HA fails to proceed and offers zero protection until I fix it - not good! I can't just 'allow' HA in the firewall rules, so I always have to intervene - also not good.

Most software I use does not have that behaviour, i.e. they don't change their identity (or whatever it is) when they install updates, so their relationship with the firewall remains stable.

It'd be nice to think that HA's priority is to to default to protecting the connection rather than leaving it open :no

Hi, this definitely should not be happening. What firewall are you using?

The executable is always the same path, but the "Start in" changes when it updates by design with the installer. But we have plans to change the installer pretty soon.

I'm using the standard Win8.1 or 10 firewall with Windows10FirewallControl ( from www.sphinx-soft.com ) as a GUI.

It's still happening with V4.16.7 which auto-installed today, 16th April 2021, locking my system :thumbsdown

Yes sorry, we haven't changed the installer yet. It's coming though. Most firewalls are based on the exe name of the software, so it should identify the same hideaway.exe executible.

It seems that in some cases the Windows firewall operating under Win10FC is alerted that the version is different although the filename is the same. As I mentioned at the start, the overwhelming majority of the software I use does not trigger the blocking, even for major updates. I hope you can find out what the issue is.
