Spam still gets through
i have been using Mailwasher Free for some time now and find it very useful. I use Mozilla Thunderbird and have found that over the last few months a folder Spam has appeared which inevitably contains large amounts of spam which have not shown up in Mailwasher. I always open Mailwasher before Thunderbird and routinely check and was my mail, so how come all this spam is getting through?

Re: Spam still gets through
As far as Gmail is concerned, the POP3 protocol in MWP cannot possibly access Gmail's Spam folder — in order to workaround this technical limitation, you can try this Gmail trick (please note — the screenshots are a bit outdated but the fundamentals remain the same.)

What about Mozilla Thunderbird?

The answer given above refers to Gmail, I use Mozilla Thunderbird so it doesn't help.

Which one are you using, then — I thought I saw Gmail on your OP (sorry about that.)Kafka wrote:The answer given above refers to Gmail, I use Mozilla Thunderbird so it doesn't help.

Re: Spam still gets through
Also, which protocol (POP3 or IMAP) are you using on your MWP and also on your Mozilla Thunderbird?
Please provide details.

Re: Spam still gets through
I use Thunderbird. I am using IMAP on Mailwasher (though I didn't select it) but I am not sure about Thunderbird as I have been unable to find out so far.

Unless you have the need to view your e-mails from multiple computers/devices, would suggest converting your IMAP protocol on Mozilla Thunderbird to POP3.
In case you are on Yahoo! you need to use IMAP on MWP instead of POP3.
If you had answered this one, too — would have been in a position to suggest better options.TrustFire wrote:Which one are you using, then — I thought I saw Gmail on your OP (sorry about that.)Kafka wrote:The answer given above refers to Gmail, I use Mozilla Thunderbird so it doesn't help.

Re: Spam still gets through
Thanks for your patience. Mozilla Support tells me that it is not possible to convert IMAP to POP3. I think that I will just have to resign myself to the existence of the Spam folder in Thunderbird. I am still surprised that so much spam escapes Mailwasher's notice.

I do not use Thunderbird — just delete your Thunderbird IMAP protocol and create a new POP3 account.

That's utter nonsense from Mozilla:—Kafka wrote:Mozilla Support tells me that it is not possible to convert IMAP to POP3.

Re: Spam still gets through
The details you have asked for, I assume, relate to whether I am using IMAP or POP3 for my Thunderbird and Mailwasher accounts. My main account in Thunderbird (the one containing spam) uses IMAP whilst my secondary account uses POP3. Mailwasher uses IMAP. Mozilla, as I have said, tells me that while I can change from OP3to IMAP I can't change from IMAP to POP3. You describe this as garbage, but I am hesitant to try in case I muck up my account. Also, I don't know the steps involved. As for your insistance that spam doesn't get through Mailwasher, the evidence would seem to prove otherwise. As I said previously, I always check and wash my mail via Mailwasher before looking at Thunderbird. Despite this, there is almost always a large amount of spam (which hasn't shown up in Mailwasher) in the Thunderbird spam folder.

No, you assume wrong — need to disclose (if not Gmail, then) which e-mail service are you using?Kafka wrote:The details you have asked for, I assume, relate to whether I am using IMAP or POP3 for my Thunderbird and Mailwasher accounts.
Your "evidence" is based on a faulty implementation.Kafka wrote:As for your insistance that spam doesn't get through Mailwasher, the evidence would seem to prove otherwise.
In that case, you might want to re-post your issue at the Mozilla forums?Kafka wrote:Mozilla, as I have said, tells me that while I can change from OP3to IMAP I can't change from IMAP to POP3. You describe this as garbage, but I am hesitant to try in case I muck up my account.
