Mailwasher had been unable to log in to GMail for a while, so I removed it from Mailwasher and started again.
I now find that when Mailwasher starts to look for new mail I get the following:
"Gmail requires your authorization to add you email account ..... to MailWasher".
How do I do that, and why the hell should I have to? It's something I never encountered before.
By the way, I made a screen shot of the message. I don't see how I could have inserted it into this message. How could I have done that?

Below where you type message content is an Attachments tab where you can upload.
This sounds like an OAUTH popup, so you would still have a GMail account loaded into MailWasher under Settings >> Accounts.
That account too will be set to use OAUTH under Settings >> Accounts >> Incoming >> Advanced >> which causes this popup to appear the first time the account tries to logon. Once you logon and give MailWasher access, it will no longer ask.

OK, check here https://myaccount.google.com/lesssecureapps
If Less Secure Apps is set to ON, then in MailWasher you can go Settings >> Accounts >> Incoming >> Advanced >> uncheck the Use OAUTH >> you won't get the popup.
Or in the popup, you can select/click your dmbridgen account, logon and you will be prompted to give MailWasher access to the GMail account using the OAUTH system.

Can you try sending me some logs. If you go Help >> Send Support Logs >> enter a brief note like 'gmail popup' >> in the Ticket Number field enter chris >> Send Logs.dmb06851 wrote:I have done that but I still get the message from Google, and Mailwasher no longer can access Gmail !

Just sent the available logs. I reset the event log every time I have a problem because it tells me nothing I don't know. I assume that's not a clever thing to do?

No that's fine, thats a different logging system.
The GMail account is sending back this reply when MW tries to logon
Web login required: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78754
If I recall, that means you need to first signin to your GMail account via the website, then here and follow the on screen process https://accounts.google.com/b/0/DisplayUnlockCaptcha
If that doesn't work, then maybe create an App specific password for MailWasher

Thank you.
Regarding the first link.
I have changed Pop3 to IMAP but that doesn't help. You have suggested this change on more than one ocasion before, but I don't believe it ever worked for me.
Nevertheless I've left on IMAP.
Further down the first link.
"If the tips above didn't help, visit https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha"
That takes me to
and that page takes me to this one
after which, Maiwasher still can't log in.
Your second link just repeats the last two items.
Third link tells me about "App" passwords.
Going to How to generate an "App" password, I am asked to "Visit your "App" passwords page. Clicking on that link takes me to this

Re: GMail requires my permission to add it to Mailwasher !
I've opted for the two step log-in, although I have no idea how this might help.
What should I do next?
I just received email from Google. It reads:
Hi David,
Congratulations on enabling 2-Step Verification for your Google Account dmbridgen@gmail.com! We have a few suggestions to make sure you can always access your account.
What if an app stops working
Now that you have 2-Step Verification, you may have trouble accessing your account from some apps, such as:
"Mail" on iPhone, iPad, or Mac;
Chat clients (e.g., Adium).
To get your apps working again, you'll need something called an app password. Don't worry - we'll generate one for you, and you won't need to remember it. Get started now.
Set up a backup phone
If your primary phone is ever unavailable when you need a code, Google can send one to a backup, like your home or work phone or even a family member's phone. To set one up,
Go to your 2-Step Verification settings page.
Click on Add a phone number in the Backup phones section.
Get backup codes
If you don't have access to your primary or backup phones - such as when you're traveling - you can sign in with a backup code. You can keep them in your wallet or save them as a file on your computer. To get your backup codes,
Go to your 2-Step Verification settings page.
Click on Show/Generate codes.
Learn more about 2-Step Verification and update your settings at any time.
The Google Accounts team
What's all these mentions of "app" passwords. I presume they mean applications. I don't have any.
I am not making any progress I'm afraid.

Now that you have done that, you should be able to generate an app specific password. Can you also go into MailWasher and enable the use OAUTH option under Setttings >> Accounts >> Incoming >> Advanced >> try to check the account, then send me another set of logs. Be sure to put chris as the Ticket Number.

You might want to obfuscate or delete your screenshots, this is a public forum — you could get exposed to unwanted spam.dmb06851 wrote:I'm not entirely sure what you mean, sorry.
