Hello
I've recently had a few strange emails.
They appear to come from UK retailers usually saying that I've won something.
The 'From' column contains the name of the retailer, followed by my real email address in brackets .
Win 7 Pro MSE shows nothing untoward.
Is it likely that my email has been compromised and a password reset will solve the problem?
Cheers
Dave

Re: Strange emails. Should I be worried?
Hi Dave
Unfortunately it's straight forward to fake the FROM field in an email. I expect the spam sending software has been configured to use the recipients own address as the sending address.
So no immediate reason to think your password has been compromised.

Thanks for the reply.
Is there anything I can do about it?
The email information fields in MW give email adresses in the 'Original To' fields. Is my ISP likelly to be able to help?
Cheers

If you never send yourself emails, you could blacklist your own address, or optionally create a Custom Filter looking for your own address in the FROM, and delete automatically.
Your ISP may offer a blocked list feature, where you may be able to block your own address.

Re: Strange emails. Should I be worried?
Hello again
Thanks for the suggestion.
I have incoming emails on the server which are there purely to let me know if the address is working.
I'll see if I can set up a filter for incoming email with my address and not containing specific text, which I'll put in the test email.
Cheers
