Why switch to 2010?

Fri Jul 09, 2010 2:43 am

Hi,
I'm a happy and registered user of version 6 (since version 4 or 3 don't remember), I have tested the new version in beta stage (2 months ago) and I haven't found good reason to stay with new one (it seems slower and less clear than the old one) so I have downgraded my installation to 6.54

Moreover I need to renew my license to go 2010 (today I've got the discounted coupon via email).

May be that I'm little dull but 6.54 works so great!

I would appreciate if you can make a short comparison between the releases, thanks.

See http://www.firetrust.com/en/products/ma ... r-pro-2010
Partial list:

Code: Select all

Some features worth mentioning are:

   1. Search as you type: Instantly find any email you are looking for from within the inbox or recycle bin
   2. Quick display options: Alter the interface to suit your needs. Font and icon zoom, layout, colors etc.
   3. Recycle bin revamped: Now sporting the same look and feel as the inbox, it's much nicer to use.
   4. More accurate spam detection: Spam detection logic has been vastly improved and refined for accuracy.
   5.
   6. Evaluation breakdowns: See exactly what spam tools contribute to an emails overall evaluation.
   7. Faster checking: Check and delete speeds are now super fast for most users.
   8. Easier file management: All your settings etc are now in one area, making it easy to backup and transfer to another computer.
   9. Translations: Change the language of MailWasher or help translate it easily.
(not sure what happened to #5...).
Many improvements coming. You may prefer to wait until a couple more releases down the road.

To be honest, if you're happy with 6.5.4, then I'd be inclined to say this too. There's no harm in giving the 30 day trial a go, and as far as I know that $10 price for registered users of the older MailWasher is a permanent offer.

Chris, you're much too modest. The new program is better.
MWP on nine computers, six with Win 10 Pro 2H22 x64 and three with Win 7 Pro SP-1 x64. All have Norton Security.

Where can I find this offer?

All I can see in the FAQ is this:
Will my old MailWasher Pro license key work in MailWasher Pro 2010?

Answer: No, the 500 digit keys used with MailWasher Pro 6.x and below will not work in MailWasher Pro 2010. The 2010 license keys are 12 digits. You will need to purchase a new license key for MailWasher Pro 2010
Do I miss something like an existing user upgrade on the purchase page?

If you install the trial version of the new MailWasher, go Help >> Registration >> Buy >> it should put you into shopping cart at the right price already :thumbsup

Cnet suggested there was a new version of MWPro so I downloaded it, I thought it was an upgrade and so installed it just like any other upgrade, after having to also install Net. from MS I found I had a very new version indeed!

Personally I prefer the old software, clear and concise, loads far quicker and does a great job effectively. I know its called 'Progress' but.......

Will the older version still be supported come subscription renew or will users HAVE to change to the 2010 software?

I tried to enter my existing key and was taken to a please pay page, there was no indication that this version would be charged for before I installed it which I found very annoying, why not be upfront about it? I hope I will get to like it in the 90 days, if not I will request a refund!

No you can always use the older version, that Registration will never expire.

I didn't expect CNet to be updated that quick...so the newsletters are well behind, hence the lack of proper notification. Will have to chat to The Big Cheese and see about possibly raising the sending rate to see if we can get this notice out quicker.

What about subscriptions for FirstAlert! that are associated with version 6? Once they expire, can they be renewed? Or does that become perpetual too?

No they would have to continue to be renewed if the user wanted to continue to use.

As a long time MW user I purchased 2 copies of MW2010 without finding any mention of an upgrade being available - afterwards I found this forum and did see it mentioned here...

I've written to support (twice) about how confusing that side of things is on the website - and all I get is emails on how to register and what so good about MW 2010 - they seem to be ignoring my comments that I am quite happy with MW 2010 - just trying to let them know that the upgrade side is confusing (not that I would say no to a refund if I am owed one) :)

You are probably just hitting their auto-responder or seeing the promo message they are starting to send out, not likely anyone is at work at 2:00 AM on a Sunday morning. You can check the local time and date in NZ at the top right of the forum page.
