LOL!
I took my scout troop to our science museum for the insect exhibit, and of course they were the first ones volunteering to help on stage for the insect cooking show. So I've had insect pilaf and lived to tell about it. They taste just like chicken...very small chickens, with tiny, crunchy legs. If ever I cook some for you all, I'll leave the legs off.
(Hey, too bad you've got that silly restriction on biological imports in New Zealand, or I could send some to the folks at Firetrust for your swap program.)
Now vegemite/marmite, no, I can't eat that, not on a sandwich anyway. I use it in a gravy recipe I have, and it's always a challenge to find it, since somehow all the people won't eat it live in North America. I once looked for it all over the grocery store: with the sandwich spreads, with the ethnic/imported foods, with the [cough] gourmet foods, with the vegetarian foods... no luck. The clerk finally found someone who knew. They keep it in the aisle with the gravy mixes.
