Marcus at MW tech support suggested that I contact the Forum and see if someone can help with a problem.
I am using MWPro 6.5.4, and with Marcus help tried to restore emails in the Recycle Bin. My ISP is Comcast, and I can send test messages from my Outlook Express create emails to MW and then to my inbox without any problem. But after checking the SMTP settings in OE6 and MW that they are the same ... as far as I can determine ... I am unable to restore emails in MW.
With Marcus help, confirmed that the MW Recycle Bin settings to save the emails such that I should be able to Restore are correctly set.
Since I did not see the proper place to post this topic, if there is a more appropriate forum topic, please let me know.
If you need/want more info, just let me know.
Thanks.

Re: How to Restore deleted emails in Recycle Bin?
Search the forum for "comcast" and you might find a solution.
If all else fails, you could set up a free email account that provides SMTP access, e.g. Gmail, Windows Live Mail, and use that for restoring your mail.

Re: How to Restore deleted emails in Recycle Bin?
I'll second the Gmail SMTP method, fought this problem too many times when it turned out to be a stupid configuration problem with the mail server that the admin refused to fix. You don't need to actually use the Gmail account for anything else and it is free. Since you are sending the message and Comcast is accepting it there is nothing more you can do at your computer except try a different server.

Re: How to Restore deleted emails in Recycle Bin?
I'm an old MWP user returning to the fold--I forget my name on, um, was it Castle Cops? But I frequented it from the beginning of MWP. Now, I use MWP 6.5.4. I have all my mail from various email accounts forwarded to one Gmail account and then I POP access via MWP>Outlook Express.
Restore doesn't work. Basically, when I try to restore, nothing happens.
Should I do something different in my MWP settings or my gmail settings in order to restore?
Thanks mucho!

Do your settings match the ones in my post just above yours?
If they do and you are stil unable to restore turn on logging (under help and about) and restore a message, the log should give you an idea of what is wrong.

Re: How to Restore deleted emails in Recycle Bin?
Thanks Stan. I checked the link as in above, and copy it here with my own settings:
Settings:
Forwarding and POP/IMAP
Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)
MW Settings:
Incoming Mail: (POP) Server pop.gmail.com
User Name: Just the part ahead of the @
Port: 995
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587
(Above is a bit confusing to me-Marzekiel)
My Settings
Incoming mail:
POP3 server address: pop.gmail.com
User name: name@gmail.com
Password:xxxxxxxxxxxxx
ADVANCED
Server port number: 995
Secure Connection Type: SSL
NO Use secure authentication
NO Use RETR rather than TOP
YES POP3 UIDL command when checking emails for this account.
Bouncing and Outgoing Mail:
NO Enable bouncing etc.
Email address name@gmail.com
SMTP server address: smtp.gmail.com
ADVANCED
Server port number: 587
Secure connection type: TLS (per instructions of forum)
YES My SMTP server requires authentication
YES Use the same settings as my incoming mail server
email response from restore trashed emai and Global SMTPl: The operation timed out - no response was received from the server.
So, still no luck. Can you see what error I'm making? I changed my Server Port to 587 when my usual 465 didn't work for port but no change. Also, change secure connection from SSL to TLS as you suggested, but I'll try again with SSL
Thanks for your help. (FWIW, I recall restore working quite well in the past. Perhaps that was before I forwarded all to my gmail account!)

Re: How to Restore deleted emails in Recycle Bin?
Check yours against the ones below, I just loaded v6 and tried a restore, it worked. Below my settings is a copy of the restore log for a good restore session.
Try collecting a log (under help, about) and post it with your personal info XXX'd out and maybe it will show something.
A test message should not be having restore issues, some spam and virus infested ones will trigger the Gmail outgoing filters.

Re: How to Restore deleted emails in Recycle Bin?
POP is checking mail, SMTP is sending mail. If you looked at a log that mentioned POP or IMAP you may have let MW do a mail check while you were working to do the restore. One of the socketlogs will be an SMTP log if the restore was attempted.

Re: How to Restore deleted emails in Recycle Bin?
I don't know what to say at this point, I've never seen MW not create an SMTP log for restore attempts. You might try emailing support at firetrust.com and tell them you are not getting SMTP logs when you try to restore and see what they say.
I am not a Firetrust employee just a MW user.

Re: How to Restore deleted emails in Recycle Bin?
Thanks you all. Still no luck. At some point, my brain fried and I was stuck in overwhelm, as nothing was helping. But I returned to attend you your excellent advices.
I am amazed at the fantastic visual assists. Thanks so much for them. (I think in pictures ). I followed everything and I continue to be in sync with all your instructions and setups. Your illustrations are enviable and I wish I could do that. Oh well.
Further, I even tried changing from the gmail to my RoadRunner account (rr.com). Still, no restore. I've checked and rechecked settings.
Some other things occur to me that could be the cause or affect this one way or another:
1. I have many email accounts--some are gmail, some are other mail, some are my rr.com provider. I forward ALL email to this one account that I then download to my Outlook Express and respond from there.
2. This repository account is mostly IMAP (I check in iPhone). Would that matter?
Thanks all.
