6.1 SMTP server cannot or will not send mail to ...

For no apparent reason I began receiving the error message above in trying to restore mail from the recycle bin. The send to email address is correct, and different addresses receive the same error message. Changing to a different SMTP server had no effect. Changing the port to 25, caused a "time out" error. Still frustrated!
