A Linux User / and my options

Mon May 19, 2014 2:50 pm

Hello,

I use XUBUNTU 12.04 32 bit... And I know that MW or MWP will not run in linux / wine.. I tried it... When using MWP or MW in Wine when you close MW, it looses all the account info and you have to constantly punch that back in to get it to poll your email. I tried the MW WEB version but no matter what email address I put in for MWW ( mail washer web) it says it already exists??? Yet, ive never used MWOTW ( mailwasher on the web) before, first time tonight tried it from the tablet and from the url exactly ( well the ip address it says to go to) created the account but when adding my email address doesnt mattery if I put in IMWITHSTUPID@STUPID.COM it says its already in use? lol I dont see how?

What are my options as a linux user?

Thanks,
Christopehr

Go to MWM forum and repost this there. Send Nick an email requesting that he clear your account info and start over.

Hi Christopher!!!

Your options with Linux lead into a long, dark, one-way tunnel with a bright ray of light at the other end - unfortunately, that light belongs on a oncoming train.
In short Linux, the most unintuitive OS - leads you nowhere (as you probably might have learned, by now.) :no :bs

There are too some very old Linux versions of MailWasher, feel free to give them a nudge. I have no flavours of Linux setup to try them out at present, but assume the 'other' version is the most generic.

Fedora
http://mwlinux.s3.amazonaws.com/mailwas ... 4.i386.rpm

Mandrake
http://mwlinux.s3.amazonaws.com/mailwas ... 1.i386.rpm

SuSe
http://mwlinux.s3.amazonaws.com/mailwas ... 0.i586.rpm
http://mwlinux.s3.amazonaws.com/mailwas ... 2.i586.rpm

Linspire
http://mwlinux.s3.amazonaws.com/mailwas ... _lin50.deb

Kubuntu 6.04
http://mwlinux.s3.amazonaws.com/mailwas ... 0_i386.deb

Kubuntu 6.10
http://mwlinux.s3.amazonaws.com/mailwas ... 0.i386.deb

Xandros
http://mwlinux.s3.amazonaws.com/mailwas ... s_i386.deb

Other
http://mwlinux.s3.amazonaws.com/mailwas ... 7.i586.rpm

Mac
http://mwlinux.s3.amazonaws.com/MailWas ... 26.pkg.sit

YAY... I got a good working version.. Installed the Kubuntu 6.10 version here in Xubuntu 12.04

only thing is it says I have 30 days before the program quits working :(

FWIW, I used to be an affiliate through the now defunct search engine I built at surfsafely.com and had long prodded Nick for a native linux version. I did find that MWPro all the way up to v6.5.3 worked reasonably well in Wine and was using it that way ever since. For some reason, however, since my upgrade from Xubuntu 12.04 to 14.04, fetching email headers has been hit or miss. I sometimes have to close it down and restart because it either locks up completely on the first attempt or it starts but fails to fetch some of my dozen or so email accounts. Can't explain why restarting immediately made it work. Can't install dotnet in Wintricks on 64 bit systems, so that's out. My only option is to try the KDE .deb and hope it works. Thanks for posting.

It may not help, but have a look under Tools >> General Options >> Connection Options >> switch to sequential checking. It'll be slower to run through the accounts but may stop that occasional freeze.

@rusticdog - VERY good call! Works like a champ now! And I definitely prefer 6.5.3 for Windows over KDE 2.0.0 for Linux.

So to recap, MW Pro all the way up to 6.5.3 works just fine with Wine on Ubuntu Linux boxes in all flavors (Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Edubuntu and Ubuntu Studio). Like all versions, it still needs to be registered after 30 days and you still have to purchase the registration key from Firetrust. WORTH EVERY PENNY! If you need a copy just PM me. (No, I will not give you my key).
