Why aren't marked emails being deleted from server?

Sat Jul 29, 2023 7:51 pm

I know this has been asked many times before, but I haven't found a thread that fits my circumstances and/or I don't understand the intricacies of the discussion. So forgive me but...

I have 3 email accounts. I have MailWasher set up as POP3 on all of them. It has always been that way since long, long ago when I first got the program, although recently I had to work on the settings for the accounts.

Now, I have thousands of emails on each of these accounts, because I had a 2-year-long depressive episode where I didn't read any email. So downloading it all into Thunderbird is out of the question, and trying to delete each unwanted email from the servers would take years. MailWasher to the rescue! Except... after I run the Wash - the emails I marked for deletion are still on the server. It's crushing because I had marked 600 emails for deletion in one account, only to discover that even though they were gone from MailWasher, they weren't gone. If I download from that account into Mailwasher again tomorrow, the same number of emails will be there as there were today, plus anything new that arrived.

This isn't happening with just one of the accounts. It's happening in all three.

Please, please, please help!

Are these gmail accounts by any chance? if so, on your GMail webmail page, click Settings > Forwarding and POP > POP Download > select "2. When messages are accessed with POP: "Delete Gmails copy" at the above location too, this instructs google to delete any emails that you delete with mwpro....

Log off the webmail page, and restart MWPro.

If no better, in MWPro click, Settings>>Accounts>>click your Gmail account>>Incoming tab, change the account type back to IMAP

Click Save and see if that makes any difference...?

------------------

If not gmail however, AND you are using POP in MWpro, for the account/s that has problems, disable pipelining under Settings>>Email Accounts, click your account, click Incoming>>Advanced, and uncheck both, PIPELINING options.

Save settings and restart MWPro.

If this does not help, try deleting the problem email account and re-importing it. (repeat for other 2 accounts if this works)

Please open Mailwasher Pro and click, Settings>>Accounts, click your account and click, "Remove Account", click, "Yes, remove it", close and restart Mailwasher Pro.

In Mailwasher Pro click, Settings>>Accounts "Import Account" and follow the directions.

If there are no amounts listed, cancel to exit this screen and click, Add Account, choose your account type and add account manually.

Full directions are available for this from here:

Mailwasher Pro >> Help >> Help Topics >> Settings Screen >> Accounts

Not sure why MW stopped deleting gmail. Struggled this all morning. Most of the posts I read made no sense and are apparently outdated so options like expunge and delete options no longer exist. I finally set up my gmail account with IMAP and got the app password from Google. Still didn't work until I opened account settings and under Incoming chose IMAP and at the bottom checked the Move deleted messages box. It initially auto filled (Success) and didn't worked until I changed it to [Gmail]/Trash. Works now and hopefully until the next Update(groan).

Usually it's because google has blocked the current app password for some reason or other.... usually just creating a new app password fixes it.

OR, you are setting MW to view your "All Mail" folder, gmail does not delete mail unless you log in and delete it from the trash folder manually (OR it'll remove it from there after 30 days) anything any program deletes is moved to the trash folder, and setting MW to view that means it'll re-display the deleted emails.
