Restore won't work

Thu Jul 15, 2010 2:48 am

For some reason the new mail washer dumped all my messages into the recycle bin. However wha't worse I am toally unable to restore any of them. The settings appear to be exatly the same as with the previous version which does restore correctly. I have lost come critical emails which I must restore. Any help would be appreciated. It appears as though Mailwasher cannot contact the Outgoing server smpt.att,yahoo.com.

Please help. I would call Firetrust but cannot find any technical support number.

It's 3am in New Zealand anyway, so we're all in bed with our laptops eating white chocolate with a comatose lump snoring to our right.

I assume you mean smtp.att.yahoo.com (is a typo above)

Most likely you need to enable SSL and SMTP Auth, in the Outgoing settings click Advanced, you want SSL enabled, and also set to use SMTP Auth using the same logon as your incoming server.

Thanks for responding. The settings are as you describe except I use logon on using xxx. I set it to use same as incoing server but that doesn't work either. I still have the previous version active and I can restore from that one and the settings appear to be exactly the same but nothing restores in version 10. Unfortunately the emails I need to resore are not in the recu=ycle bin of the prior version.

As a temp work-a-round, can you not access then in MWP2010 recycle bin preview or double click them, you can then Cut 'n' Paste them for now.

I'm sure RD will find a solution/fix.

Problem solved. There was one setting that did not carry over - SSL. Once I noticed that everythng is working fine. Thank you both for your interest and help.

Now I have to work out why everything got dumped into the recycle bin in the first place. I'm certtain it has to do with filters and that fact that they did not carry over and I had to recreate them all.

Thanks again.

You need to be aware that MWP2010 may not have downloaded the full messages from your server. The amount downloaded is controlled here:
MWP Download Lines.png
MWP Download Lines.png (64.21 KiB) Viewed 9160 times
This setting affect the overall performance of MWP, the more lines downloaded the longer the time to download and evaluate. If you get critical messages a lot of time and are not comfortable with the application I would suggest setting this to max at 999 until your comfortable and can scale it back. This should bring in most of the message bodies but it you have really large attachments it may still truncate the download.

I don't recommend that you clear the current Recycle bin but use it to review the messages you need and contact the originator for a replacement send.

Added note restore can only put back on the server the portion of the msg that it downloaded.
