This started a couple of days ago. I've checked all the account settings - they're ok. I even uninstalled MW and reinstalled with no effect.
Any suggestions please?

Sorry, I was half asleep when I posted that.
I don't understand the "pop up window".
I get the same results when I put GMail in the first to be checked position.

Re: MWP can no longer access the server.
Please make the following 2 changes:—
Yahoo! works better with MWP on IMAP (than on POP3) — just a heads-up.
- Use pop.mail.yahoo.com instead of plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com
- Use your full e-mail ID on the Username field

Re: MWP can no longer access the server.
Another heads-up brought forward from the hidden Beta forums for the benefit of Yahoo! Users:—
NOTICE OF DATA BREACH
NOTICE OF DATA BREACH
Dear _____________________,
We are writing to inform you about a data security issue that may involve your Yahoo account information.
What happened?
A recent investigation by Yahoo has confirmed that a copy of certain user account information was stolen from our systems in late 2014 by what we believe is a state-sponsored actor. We are closely coordinating with law enforcement on this matter and working diligently to protect you.
What information was involved?
The stolen user account information may have included names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, hashed passwords (the vast majority with bcrypt) and, in some cases, encrypted or unencrypted security questions and answers. Not all of these data elements may have been present for your account. The ongoing investigation suggests that stolen information did not include unprotected passwords, payment card data or bank account information; payment card data and bank account information are not stored on the system that the investigation has found to be affected.
What we are doing
We are taking action to protect our users:
- We are asking potentially affected users to promptly change their passwords and adopt alternative means of account verification.
- We invalidated unencrypted security questions and answers so they cannot be used to access an account.
- We are recommending all users who have not changed their passwords since 2014 to do so.
- We continue to enhance our systems which detect and prevent unauthorised access to user accounts.
- We are working closely with law enforcement on this matter.
Our investigation into this matter is ongoing.
What you can do
We encourage you to follow these security recommendations:
- Change your password and security questions and answers for any other accounts on which you used the same or similar information used for your Yahoo account.
- Review your accounts for suspicious activity.
- Exercise caution with any unsolicited forms of communication that ask for your personal information or refer you to a web page asking for personal information.
- Avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from suspicious emails.
In addition, please consider using Yahoo Account Key, a simple authentication tool that completely eliminates the need to use a password.
For more information
For more information about this issue and our security resources, please visit the Yahoo Security Issue FAQs page available at https://yahoo.com/security-update.
Protecting your information is important to us and we are working continuously to strengthen our defences against the threats targeting our industry.
Yours sincerely,
Bob Lord
Chief Information Security Officer

Re: MWP can no longer access the server.
Thank you Trustfire. I tried making those two changes, but they're made no difference.
Yes, I received that message from Yahoo and changed the password. Their talk about a Yahoo Account Key doesn't, as far as I can see, apply to Desktops. They seem to be mesmerised by portable equipment and I can not see any mention of Account Key in Yahoo Mail on my machine.

Re: MWP can no longer access the server.
Did you try using your credentials to log-in to the Yahoo! web server, through your browser in order to check whether your account has been locked — these temporary access locks can usually be unlocked by re-verification of one's security credentials (mostly in the form of question-answers and sometimes in the form of an anti-bot captcha.)

On a completely different troubleshooting note, would suggest cross-verifying whether MailWasher has due internet access from your security system especially through the firewall.
The following rules (permissions) are required to be allowed by the firewall for a successful POP3 and/or IMAP handshake (access):—

I am unable to remove either of the graphics files.
Yes Trustfire, I can log in to my Yahoo account through a browser, as I can log in to my Google account too.
I'm afraid that I can't see where to verify those firewall settings .... Ah, found the information with a Google search. The rule has been created, but not all the items in your list appeared in the New Rule section.

Re: MWP can no longer access the server.
You might also want to check whether your Yahoo! account continues to be enabled to POP with 3rd party programs (like MWP) and e-mail clients:—

- Log-in to your Yahoo! account
- Click the Gear icon at the top-right of your browser screen
- Navigate to Settings >>----> Accounts and then your email address, as illustrated below:—
- Once you reach the following screen, ensure that the Access your Yahoo Mail elsewhere option is checked (enabled)
- Don't forget to click Save
Those settings reside within the firewall, on your system.dmb06851 wrote:I'm afraid that I can't see where to verify those firewall settings.

Yes, Access ..... Elsewhere has the POP box selected.
I don't suppose this is connected with the problem? but ... after closing the browser window in which I have been looking at my Yahoo mail and then opening another one via desktop shortcut, above the mauve/purple bar above the list of mail, the following is displayed "Switch to the newest Yahoo Mail", the gear icon is not present. After clicking on the "newest" link, the screen refreshes and the gear icon is displayed.

Re: MWP can no longer access the server.
Ah, that is not a problem — it is just indicative of a successful update.
Now, (apart from the firewall) there is only one other point which could be affecting your mail relays — I suspect that your password in MWP is not matching the actual one for the affected account. Would suggest navigating into your MWP account to change the same while taking care to type out your password manually instead of performing a copy-paste in order to avoid a potential leading or trailing space.
If that too fails to work, the only option left would be to delete the affected account and restart MWP to re-create the account from scratch.

You may also want to disable all your security system temporarily (especially the firewall) just in order to check connectivity of MWP to your server.

Re: MWP can no longer access the server.
I typed in the password for Yahoo but that didn't help.
By the affected account I take it that you mean MWP? I did that shortly after starting the investigation. Originally jut reinstalling it, then, when that didn't help, I deleted everything related to MWP including all the server settings for Yahoo and GMail. One thing I forgot to do was save Wizcrafts' filters.xml file, but that's easily remedied.

In those 2 days, is your Yahoo! account completely inaccessible by MWP — if not, approximately how many times has MWP managed a handshake with the server?dmb06851 wrote:This started a couple of days ago.
