No auto start and no update access

A few days ago, MW suddenly stopped starting with windows. I toggled the option several times with restarts but it had no effect. I then checked for any updates and got the message "Acess denied". This is a lifetime registered version of this software so I'm confused. Can anyone help?

Under Settings >> General >> Updates >> click Go To Folder >> delete the file updates.aiu >> see if it checks for updates then.

For the autostart, set MW to start with Windows, then CTRL + ALT + ESC to open Task Manager >> click the Startup tab >> check MailWasher is listed there and enabled
