help to set up MW in Gmail

Hi guys,
I've been using MW with several email addresses from my service provider for years, now they're going to charge us €6.00 per address, per month, so I've switched to Gmail & wish to continue using MW.
I have read the forum threads on how to set up gmail in MW but just can't seem to get it working....
Please could someone give me a very basic guide on how to do this, I'm not very technical so please go easy on me

Check here first that Less Secure Apps is set to ON

If you happen to use Chrome as your web browser, do you have another installed you can try that link with ? I have come across some people having issues setting this properly on Chrome.


MailWasher will configure itself for the settings once you enter your email address, so all that will be correct. I assume it just fails to connect, which would imply the password is incorrect. You can use the eye icon in MailWasher to be sure that the password is correct.

Failing that, try sending me some logs. To do that go Help >> Send Support Logs >> enter a brief note like 'gmail not work' >> in the Ticket Number field enter chris >> Send Logs >> reply back once sent, so I can check they arrived all OK.

Forgot to mention, check here too https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/fwdandpop that the Status for both POP and IMAP are showing as enabled. Set to enable if they are not and click Save Changes down the bottom.

I do use Chrome but when I go to your link it shows me a window that says:

"Some apps and devices use less secure sign-in technology, which makes your account vulnerable. You can turn off access for these apps, which we recommend, or turn it on if you want to use them despite the risks. Google will automatically turn this setting OFF if it’s not being used. Learn more

This setting is not available for accounts with 2-Step Verification enabled. Such accounts require an application-specific password for less secure apps access. Learn more"

I put my gmail email address in MW recognises it & puts IMAP in the INCOMING Server Type field.
Then I enter my correct password & hit save, it attempts to connect but 'failed to connect to server' is the message returned.
I'm absolutely certain that my password is correct.

If you create a new app password and use that in MailWasher. Your regular password you use to logon to the site above stays the same, you're creating a special password for MailWasher effectively.
