ESET Internet Security scan and Mailwasher file

Sun Aug 03, 2025 3:00 am

When ESET does a scan, it identifies this file as an issue. It doesn't delete it but it appears to see it as an issue.

Can anyone shed light on what it is? And more to the point, is it safe? Thanks.

"C:\ProgramData\Firetrust\updates\Update7155\mailwasher_pro_setup_7_15_5.exe » ADVANCEDINSTALLER » disk1.cab » CAB » mwreq.dll - a variant of Win32/GameHack_AGen.WS potentially unsafe application - retained"

@johnnysaint,

As an ESET Home Premium user, my first question would be why you are keeping such an old MailWasher Pro installer file on your computer? The current MWP version is 7.15.41.

ESET has identified that one file as a "potentially unsafe application" (PUA). ESET does not delete because it is only possibly a threat. I doubt it is. ESET has flagged files on my systems because a filename corresponds to a malware filename. If I know the file is safe, I just add to my ESET exclusions, and the problem is solved. It you have any doubt about a file, upload it to VirusTotal.

Have a great day.

Regards,
Phil
